Your adventure was so great I had to try by myself, turning off one of the engines. What I found out is that the single generator that remains works too hard to power the plane. And turning off systems to keep the load below 100% is not enough, at least until you get to lower altitudes. That's when the generator heat seems to become the major factor. Look at the tablet and see how pink it is just before it shuts down. By this time, all we have to land is half a six-pack.
If I face this challenge again, the first things I'll do is turn off radar, all the heaters and the copilot avionics, as well as all the lights.
