Possible GTN650 integration?
-
@pequenyo sorry no, it's currently on hold. In Starship version 1.1, the GTN will not drive the autopilot in NAV or APPR modes.
@MarkS Do you have any news? Or is it impossible? Thank you!

I will have to be careful about volunteering my time in this particular effort while there are many other features that I should be working on, but I should just say that it's definitely possible. It will take editing of the behaviors XML, and the CDU to make sure all the autopilot variables are set correctly for the GTN, but it's definitely possible.

@Black-Square Happy to read this!

@Black-Square this is where things stand at the moment: the GTN replaces the 430 on the pedestal, but its autopilot will not couple to the Starship autopilot in NAV or APPR modes. In NAV or APPR, it circles in a right-hand bank, and each circle is slightly larger than the last. The GTN does couple to HDG, ALT, and VS, all of which can be set either from the cockpit or the GTN autopilot panel.
I have also observed that with either the GNS or GTN, NAV and APPR modes cannot be engaged unless an approach is loaded into the GPS. I assume this is by design.
I can send you the mod in its current state if you'd like.

Not a big fan of this. A very vocal minority gets special attention. Just for, and let’s be honest, they don’t want to use the GNS430.
There are much more important issues than that.Charts for the VR users could better be implemented in the tablet were it would benefit everyone. Gut guess you just have to be pushy enough.

@Mad_X Nobody is pushing anyone...

@Gilandred Integrating charts into the Starship tablet seems a bit backwards to me, it would make more sense to integrate the tablet into the EFB as A2A have done with the Aerostar.

@Rhinozherous yes, especially you. Just learn the GNS430. The real plane never had the GTN.

This is a simulated aircraft in a sim made for simmers, you don’t have to use any GPS if YOU do not want to. What YOU can’t do though is tell anyone else what they can and can’t have, that’s up to the Nick not YOU.

@Mad_X You just dont tell me what I have to do. It is all about options, but people like you never will get this. Mind your own business...

@stuart11n there is no tablet in MSFS 2020, and Nick is still planning to continue developing aircraft for that platform.

At present perhaps, but if a Starship's GNS quits, the replacement option for the same panel space is going to be the GTN650. Garmin is no longer servicing failed displays on the GNS430 and expects other repair capabilities to be limited going forward. From Garmin's website: "Garmin can no longer replace or repair display modules for WAAS and Non-WAAS GPS 400, GNC
420, and GNS 430 units that are unserviceable."

@Andydigital and that’s why telling me what I can and cannot do? Oh the hypocrisy. I have a different option than you. Deal with it.
