EDM LOP Leaning is wrong (still)

Lean => pillars rise from bottom to top until
EDM finds LEANEST => picture then switches and the pillars build from top to bottom
EDM finds RICHEST => Delta (lower left) is set to 0 at this point, and you keep leaning until 20-30° LOP.

Currently, selecting LOP, the EDM omits step 1 and 2 and starts with 3. Also, when finding the RICHEST, the Delta in the lower left immediately shows around -20. It set be to zero at the temp when the richest was found.

ROP:
Works quite well, but also here: When LEANEST is announced, the Delta is at approx -25 or so. It set be to zero at the temp when the leanest was found, so you can set it to -50 and for ROP ops.

@MatzeH84 Last time you brought this up, I believe I said that I would tackle it after adopting the new mixture control, as I tried to live by the programming adage that you should only change one thing at a time. Seeing as I just finished implementing the new fuel flow across my entire fleet, I suppose the day has come.

I thought this was going to be relatively easy, but unfortunately, I quickly discovered why I didn't implement this the first time around. It's a very long story, affecting so many systems. I've been working on this literally all day since your message, but this is going to be a multi-day project. I'll let you know where it ends up, but right now, I'm confident that it will be much better, albeit not perfect.

I would like to step into this tread. Some time ago, I also reported that the BlackSquare EDM-800 probably was not performing like it should. see: https://community.justflight.com/topic/4426/i-believe-the-edm800-is-not-working-like-it-should

I just flew two hours in the Commander, the whole flight at 8.000 ft. trying to get the right procedure on leaning. I did it over and over again but did not find the right method. both methods do not work.

This is what the JP instruments handbook says (For me only the first sentence part works, the rest is not):
The EDM will indicate success in finding a peak by displaying the word LEANEST for two seconds and flashing the peaked EGT column. The Scanner Information Area will also display the current value for the peaked EGT on the left, and the word SET on the right (or fuel flow value, if so equipped), for final adjustment of the mixture. The peak EGT value encountered during leaning is remembered by the EDM and can be displayed by holding the LF button during Lean Find Mode.

( I do not see that the peak value is remembered by the EDM-800, holding the LF button does not indicate it.
May be I make a mistake, but I think I know what I am doing because i worked with the EDM-800 in RL - but that was until 14 years ago. I really would like to fly the BlackSquare aircraft how we do in RL so please tell me what i do wrong or it would be nice to know clearly where the BlackSquare EDM is incomplete.)

Hi,
I noticed something else while performing a lean-of-peak mixture adjustment.
After setting the mixture and reaching the RICHEST indication, the manual states:

"This configuration can be further monitored by pressing the 'LEAN FIND' button, which will show the EGT of the last cylinder to peak, and the fuel flow relative to peak. Negative fuel flows indicate operating lean of peak."

However, when I press the LEAN FIND button, nothing happens.

This feature works as described in the manual on the Duke Piston, but I don't think it does on the Bonanza or the Commander.
Am I missing something again, or is this function not currently implemented on these aircraft?

This might be the reason why i never understood the leaning function of this gauge. I always expected it to behave like described in the real manual I found online.

@Bentree Unless I misunderstand, the only part you're saying that is missing is that you can't recall the peak EGT by holding Lean Find? I've already implemented this for the next update.

@Ratman Yes, I made a single character mistake when converting the EDM from the twin engine version to the single engine version. Already fixed for the next update.

@Rhinozherous Despite the things mentioned here, you really shouldn't have had too much trouble with the leaning functions, as I've been using them for performance tuning in my aircraft this whole time. Let me know if there is anything else you struggle with, however.

I think this issue also existed in the Bonanza. I haven't flown it for quite some time, so I'm not sure whether it has already been fixed or if it behaves the same way as the Commander.
I'll check it on my simulator when I get home. If it turns out to behave the same way as the Commander, are there any plans to update it as well?

That's because I am mentally broken in just the right way that makes me obsessive about virtual airplanes. It would not be possible for me to stop, even if I wanted to.
