Hey skippers! 🙂 Can someone give me some hints how to correctly shoot an ILS approach? I sometimes have the issue that the Starship tries to capture the localizer and glideslope but then overshoots the localizer beam. The aircraft then goes full bank so that I have to disengage the autopilot and fly the approach manually. Nav source VOR 1 is set, frequency and course are tuned correctly. Is there some kind of recommended angle to intercept the ILS? Is it crucial to first stabilize on the ILS and than to intercept the glideslope? Thanks!

Maybe you just need to right-click the course button.

Use your SDU changing the format to VOR1, make sure the correct frequency is tuned in Nav 1 for the ILS, use the CRS to set the final approach course. This allows you to still fly with the FMS on the ND to the FAF and then switch the source to VOR 1 via the CDU. As long as you have followed the altitude instructions for the plate you should have no difficulties switching from FMS 1 to VOR 1 and continuing the ILS.

I actually also like using the SDU for this purpose, but the more intended method is to use set the Preset Nav Source to VOR1/2 on the CDU, so you can monitor the CDI on the ND. Then, use the "CRS XFER" line select key on the Nav Source CDU page to instantaneously transfer over to your chosen localizer course and source.
