Since its release I have been flying the wonderful piston duke. I notice that when it loads with the engines running at the runway the COWL flap indicator on the tablet doesn't show its position correctly. Only if I briefly close it does it switch to the fully open position. This is probably just a cosmetic glitch?

I would like to take this opportunity to ask a question about cowl flaps. How does it work in real life? The rocker switches have to be held for quite a while to open or close the cowl flaps. How do I know in flight which position they are currently in? Is it really the case that you have to guess which position they are in? Do I only see this after a while on the temperature gauges?

Or do I hold the switches for a long time to be sure that the flaps are closed, for example. And then I count 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi, and that's 30 percent?

@Raller said in COWL flaps when loading the plane on the runway:

    Mississippi, 2 Missisippi, 3 Missisippi

That is indeed exactly how Duke operators learn how to manage their cowl flaps. The real reciprocating engine Duke owner who contributed to this project recently said to me that he plans on creating an aftermarket solution for Dukes with a small digital indicator for the cowl flaps position.
