Wing icing not always visible?
-
Had a flight today where I couldn't climb above 13,200 @ 105 kias. Checked and didn't see any ice on the wings but the temps and conditions were good for it. I turned on prop ice and got a little climb - then I turned on the boots and jumped up to an 800 fpm climb. Looked outside the aircraft and there was ice on the airframe. Wondering if anyone else has run into a situation where they didn't see ice on the wings from inside the cockpit? This was on the cargo variant btw.

I just did a flight in northern MI, perfect icing conditions. I had icing visible on the radar dome and around where the wing struts attach to the fuselage and wings, but not on the leading edges. So I'm not sure if it's visually modeled on those sections or not. I would like to know though.

No icing noticed on windows?

I didn't notice ice on the windows BUT I had the defrost all the way up and the defrost seems to work REALLY well in the Caravan because I've seen way less window icing in the caravan than in other aircraft. I have seen ice on the leading edges on an external view - don't think I've seen it from the cockpit yet now that I think of it.
