Pretty sure I have a legitimate one this time.

I have v2.1.0 of the KLN-90B, the autopilot becomes unusable when the unit is selected. The unit display will only show FPM, ALT, and AP. The ALT/VS stuff gets broken and the only lateral mode that seems to work is HDG even though it's not shown. Shows only AP on the mode annunciator too.

Did you try cycling the avionics selection away from the KLN, and then back to the KLN? I've found that can happen sometimes on rare occasion.

I reset it until it appeared normal, the KLN-90B itself threw up a big error on screen (not sure if it's the Caravan breaking the KLN or the KLN breaking the Caravan it but seems to be when using Direct-To) and the AP would start flying in circles and straying off course when using radnav

It was also consistently flying 50-100ft above the set altitude as well with both baros set correctly too.

So I saw this post yesterday and wanted to test some things out since I know not a lot of people also enjoy using the KLN-90b. I did a few legs around Alaska using the KLN exclusively (I configured the caravan with the KLN-90b and KNS-80).

I used HDG, NAV, and VS modes throughout the flight and everything seemed to work fine, including an RNAV approach. I noticed it started leveling off earlier than when I was using the GTNs, but it did reach and maintain the target altitude I had set. It was usually maintaining +/-10ft. Adjusting the baro setting in the KAP also resulted in the aircraft recapturing the correct altitude automatically.

Edit: since you’re using V2.x, that means you’re on MSFS 24 as well right? Just checking since v2 won’t work on MSFS 2020. I’m sure you’re probably on the right version but it’s the only thing I can think of.

Yeah I even tested by adjusting the baros and it wouldnt budge from where it was.

The last flight I did it was totally fine on GPS (before it broke and froze) apart from the altitude weirdness. I swapped to radnav after it froze to finish my approach and it would not track anything. As I said, im not sure whether its the KLN breaking the Caravan or the Caravan breaking the KLN.

I'm using it with MSFS24 yes.

As a sidenote I have been thoroughly enjoying the Caravan regardless of whatever is going on here, it's fantastic.

Edit: the NAV/GPS was in NAV, HSI was showing all the correct stuff for VOR and ILS.

I may have missed it but what was your secondary nav unit set to (GNS/GTN/KNS)? I can try to replicate the same configuration and also switch to NAV mode to see if the same thing happens.

Secondary was set as the KNS.

I’ll try messing around with it after work and see if I can get the issue replicated and if so come up with some more info that Nick may find helpful.

Unfortunately, I was not able to replicate the same issues you described. I loaded a GPS route into the KLN-90b, but tried NAV mode with a plain VOR for a bit first. Then I set up a waypoint on the KNS-80, flipped the HSI source to RNAV, and followed that route for a bit. Lastly, went back to NAV 1 on the HSI source and switched back to GPS mode. The autopilot seemed to be working fine throughout. Nav, heading, VS, and Alt modes continued to work on the KAP-140. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Maybe try removing the KLN-90b from the community folder, restarting the sim, and then reinstalling it?
