Hi all, I have been using active pause with //42's flow to pause the sim, as that allows for pausing the passage of time (and unfortunately I need to pause a lot). However, I came back the other day to a flight in the caravan and a failure had triggered, and from research it seems like active pause in general does not pause aircraft systems (which tracks). Can someone tell me if an esc pause will fully pause the black square systems? Is there any way to do it? Thanks!

@adomeitus I believe an escape-pause does pause all code execution. In MSFS 2020, there was an additional "true" pause that you could create a key-binding for, but I seem to recall that this was either removed or made more difficult to access via key-binds in MSFS 2024. Perhaps that's changed, but I remember being disappointed when MSFS 2024 was released, because that's a really useful feature as a developer too... Hopefully someone else will have explored this more thoroughly and can enlighten us both.

@Black-Square thank you Nick as always for such a quick and well-considered reply. Yeah, the pause situation is really a nuisance. Even in 2020 I could never get the "true pause" binding to work - the only thing that ever worked in 2020 for me was an escape pause followed by opening the load/save file plan windows system file selection dialogue. That wound pause the sim, and I could even sleep and resume the computer! None of that is possible in 2024, sadly.

That's good to know that an esc pause should stop all code execution - if I scheduled a failure immediately before the pause, I support that would work as a test to see if the code is executed during the pause? In general using esc pause means resetting sim time manually when I resume (and not needing flow any more, but I've wasted worse money flight simming 🤣) but the caravan is quickly becoming the only plane I fly so I'd love to have the most reliable/realistic process possible.

Will test when I can and report back - in the meantime, yes indeed I hope someone can shed more light on the arcane pausing situation

Ok, simple testing complete. Active pause will not stop failures from triggering, whereas esc pause does. That suggests tay esc pause does indeed stop the code from executing, but of course does continue to allow the passage of time. It even automatically turns off active pause, which means my workaround doesn't work. Still, good to know where we are!

Edit: but wait, if one manually locks time with the flow widget, then it will stay locked during an escape pause! So true pause does seem to be available with msfs2024. A bit annoying that you need a piece of (paid) third party software to do it, but it does seem to work.
