Had a failure of CDU1 today just after takeoff that looks to be caused by the IAP FMC 1 circuit breaker being off (L FMS failure) - which if I reset it, dies again. So troubleshooting that I was transferring things over to the copilots side thinking it might affect the autopilot as well (looks like it does not). The FMS failure though doesn't seem to be affecting FMS1. My pilot side PFD and ND are showing FMS1 - I can't change it on CDU1 - I have X-side CDU turned on the pilots side but the CDU2 controls don't change the nav source for the pilots side. Could very well be missing something here.

Trying to work out how to change the nav source on the pilots side - so far I can't figure out a way to do that with CDU1 offline. Figure I'll need that at the end of the flight for an ILS most likely. Any ideas? I'm still searching. X side AHRS doesn't appear to do that.

But in doing so I found that I couldn't use the IAS modes of the copilots autopilot panel. It would just level off and not climb. I had the speed bug set on both airspeed indicators just in case (thinking it should just be the copilots). I'm running CDU2 off of FMS2.

Did you press the AP X-FER button on the pedestal autopilot panel? That should transfer all reference data to the copilot's side. I absolutely love this kind of troubleshooting! This is what Starship was made for!

You bet! That's why I'm here!! AP transfer you mean? Yes, the lights on the copilots autopilot panel then light up. I'm still in the air on this flight. I was able to control heading and nav and alt from the copilot side, just not IAS. Still haven't figured out how to get my pilot side nav source to display anything other than FMS1.

Going to attempt to fly from the copilots autopilot and displays to shoot the approach for now I guess. Will be descending shortly and trying the descent from the copilots autopilot - I'm guessing it won't work the same as the other ias modes.

CDU X side seems to just move all of the upper buttons on the CDU over to CDU2 to control the pilots side screen - except Nav Source.

Yep, I was right - descend doesn't work from the copilot side autopilot panel either. Works fine from the pilots side - too bad I can't tune the pilots side to a VOR. I think I'll be hand flying the end of this looking at the other side. What I was expecting was if the AHRS and CDU x sides were on that the two main displays would basically display the exact same as the copilots - wrong expectation?

Also noticed that ATC 1/2 doesn't seem to work - transponder stays on the pilot side.
