Just did spawn on the water at a random location.
Props did turn and sound was like the engine was spooling own. Did check and had a 20% damage on it.
In my case down to 79% now.

Thanks, that's at least confirmation that it's not a user-specific issue.

BTW it is not only by spawning on Water, same happens if you spawn near a dirt strip. Damage in this case was 5%. Engine was spooling down.

@Black-Square Sorry for the ping. Maybe at some point of time you might be able to look into this? And in case it is possible to make an adjustment for one of the next updates?

          Just to summarize:
If you start (Cold&Dark) on Water or on ground without beeing on a runway or parking spot, the Engine is spooling down at the time you press "ready to fly". As a result you get Engine damage before you can even enter the plane.

@RealPax I'll look into it, but this might be a result of MSFS 2024's confused loading. Engine damage should be inhibited in my code until the aircraft finishes loading, but unfortunately, we don't reliably know when that is in MSFS 2024. As for why this doesn't happen inside a parking spot... hopefully that's where the solution may be.

Maybe just inhibit damages 10-20 sec after start of session, indicated by some advisory on the Radar display that the Aircraft is "Initialising".

@Black-Square Nick, do you know what .flt file it would use for spawning on a random water location? Could you give me the code for a line in said file to have the inertial separator loaded in set to bypass instead of normal? I want to see if that has an effect.

Of course, finding out which .flt file is in use might be half the answer, anyway.

                  @Black-Square
I am happy to report that I was able to start the plane on water without issues. SU5 brought a fix regarding this.
Will do some more checks but for sure the start on water on a random spot was without damage.
                  Prop was not spinning.

I am refering to this line under free flight:
Fixed an issue where the aircraft could spawn with the engine running instead of in cold and dark state when using a custom “on ground” spawn location in the World Map.

@jmarkows Sorry for tagging, thought might be interessting for you as well.

Oh, excellent! Thanks for letting me know! Well, at least that's one of many MSFS 2024 startup bugs fixed. I did look into this myself, but that explains why I was unable to find any configuration that made a difference.

@RealPax that's good to know, thanks for being the first to try it! I didn't scan the patch notes extensively so I missed that line.
