@Black-Square FYI - since the 1.1 update the scrolling up down to change the noise cancelling volume doesn't appear to work (at least for me). Plugging the headphones in works, just can't adjust it.

@MiRexer You're probably using legacy interaction mode, which uses mouse clicks to the left or the right of the clickspot instead. Let me know if you have a chance to give it a try. You should see rotating arrow cursors when you're in the right spot.

        Hi all
I do love the caravan. Its my first Black Square aircraft. I loved it so much I also bought the Baron and Bonanza pack.

With the Caravan, for me the rumbling engine sounds are too strong. I would like to hear the prop sound more with a little less rumbling.

Is there a setting I could change to reduce these a little?

Thanks in advance if you can help.
        Best wishes.

Hi Bob! This post is just for my curiosity and for friendly conversation πŸ™‚ I don't intend to further frustrate Nick with conflicting feedback. You see, I was definitely one of the "complainers" about the 1.1 sounds. The quality of sound design that we are now able to achieve in MSFS is unbelievable, so much better than any flightsim before. But as a result, users are becoming more particular, and I see wars of opinion about sound playing out in the community that are more vigorous than before. I've become very curious about how different people perceive airplane sounds in MSFS, and how they develop their preferences.

With that said, how would you characterize the "rumbling" sound you're talking about? To my ear, Boris really amped up the bass, the overall drama in the sound update that came with 1.1, so I would say there is even more rumbling than before. The problem that myself and others complained about was a new prop sound playing in the cockpit that seemed like an external sound...a buzzing of the prop, that was playing inside. And that's just not something you hear in a single-engine turboprop, for various reasons that I could explain (but will hold off for now).

As a point of comparison, how do you like the sounds of the default MSFS Caravan?

@C525B And I just want to be clear that my comment above was not directed at you (or anyone in particular), lest there be any ambiguity πŸ™‚ I've seen your name around here for quite a while, so I know that your questions and commentary always come from the right place. In fact, your line of questioning here is very precise, and could lead to interesting data. I'm sure if I can act upon it with as much precision, but I will look forward to any responses.

@Black-Square No, of course not, I never took it that way! As I said, I am genuinely curious about this. I have a real flying background in corporate aircraft and have also been into flightsim sound design for a while. Sound adds a guttural, immersive aspect to flightsim. I'm just excited about the current state of the art, although I also have some strongly-held opinions.

If I remember correctly, Boris has said there will be some further refinement in the next patch.

                Hi @C525B
Overall I think the Caravan sounds are great. However for me (I think its probably a personal preference) I am just not a fan of the low down rumbling sounds. I think it is as you mentioned the bass has been amped up. (I actual tried reducing the bass on my speakers but it did not seam to make a difference). Please note its not a major issue for me as I am totally enjoying the Black Square Craven. I just somehow wish I could hear the propeller whine a little more over the rumbling sound (I believe the rumbling is simulating the actual engine rumble?).

                Best wishes.

I also use Legacy mode and just loaded the Cargomaster to look. I can't find the left/right arrow clickspots anywhere around the headphone jack with the headphones plugged in, either.

Makes sense! Do your speakers have a subwoofer?

I use a set of headphones (Sony WH-1000XM3) that have a slightly better bass response than studio monitors, but not quite as much as something like Bose or other gaming headphones.

I used to game with a set of Sennheiser studio headphones that had a very flat EQ, but when I wanted to go Bluetooth, I found that the Sony’s were just a little touch heavier the low end, without going overboard, like a lot of consumer headphones do. Seemed like the right fit for me.

The Cursor does not change for me as well, anyhow if I am using the mouse wheele while I am over the plugin spot I can adjust the volume.
