Autopilot - Set for climb
-
So I've discovered that there may be a pitch mode in the autopilot and it seems to involve using the CWS button on the yoke. Unless I missed this one as well, I didn't see anything in the documentation about the CWS button or the GA button? Thinking that setting the autopilot for climb might involve the use of these.

I posted this elsewhere, hopefully it helps _
I fly with a KAP140 IRL and it's fine when you get used to it. The only thing I'm seeing in the sim that differs is when you engage the autopilot IRL it engages 'rol' and 'vs' mode (at whatever the vs was when engaged). As I understand it the KAP 140 is rate based and does not have a 'pitch' function.

I would welcome Nick's view on this.. The factory manual does not list a PIT mode, only VS! @Black-Square

And I would add that getting from PIT mode to VS mode is not easy without losing the target altitude selection..

Here's the workflow I've come up with. Set altitude for the autopilot on the ground. After takeoff get the plane trimmed for a normal climb then engage the autopilot and heading mode. It's now in pitch and Alt Arm mode and I can use the CWS button on the yoke to adjust the pitch attitude. Once it captures the target altitude then I can change the target altitude and hit alt to put it in VS and Alt Arm mode and use the up down to set the climb/descent rate.
I have sometimes been able to get it back into a pitch mode but I haven't yet figured out the magic combination to do so.
Here's the KAP140 manual - it does talk about a CWS button in it: https://www.bendixking.com/content/dam/bendixking/en/documents/document-lists/downloads-and-manuals/006-18034-0000-KAP-140-Pilots-Guide.pdf

As mentioned in your other post.. better to eliminate Pitch mode altogether.
