IAS Prof
-
Hi all.
Yesterday I noticed that the IAS Prof mode was not activating for the descent, even though it worked perfectly during the climb. I looked for information in the real-world manuals but couldn't find any reference to this. Is there any reason why the IAS Prof mode might not be available for activation during descent?

Hi Alan!
Very simple answer: IAS Profile mode is meant for climbs, reducing the target indicated airspeed to mitigate the opportunity for a power-on stall. This airspeed schedule serves no purpose in the descent, so IAS profile mode is deactivated. As I'm sure you've read in the manual, the proper mode for descent is the Descend mode, which holds the airspeed at an adjustable offset away from the barber-pole on the way down.
I hope that answers your question, and I'm always here if you have more
