Loading a flight plan from the World Map / 2024 EFB
-
@Black-Square is loading a flight plan from the World Map in 2020 or doing “Send to avionics” from the 2020 EFB supported and tested now, should we be trying it?
-
I would love to know the same for both 2020 & 2024 ... also regarding plan import from Little Nav Map and Simbrief. Thanks!

Stupid question on my part but why not just try it? I've been using the PMS50 GTN750 Top bar edition no problem since day one and i've been using it with v1.1 all day today without issue.

I have tried it (in 1.0) and I do know that it works partially, but I noticed problems. I'd like to know if problems are to be expected because it's not officially supported, or if it's meant to work perfectly.
Edit: I tried it with 1.1 in MSFS 2024 and there are definitely issues with loading from the EFB, approach waypoints seem kind of broken. If you load a flight plan without any approaches, it should probably work.

Strangely this has stopped working for me now, i'm not sure if I am entering things differently now or what but even when GNS as a source is on I cannot get it to follow the PMS GTN750 route anymore. This is a ball ache as it takes ages to type a route in even with the keyboard entry system, that keyboard system should not time out it should stay on until you press enter rather than having to ptess enter in the fms.

So for MSFS 2024 users, does anyone have issues with following flight plan approach waypoints in 1.1? I just did a flight with an ILS approach. I loaded the approach, I was able to set RNAV advisory altitudes for those approach waypoints, but once the aircraft got to the first approach waypoint it would not do FMS mode anymore, it would only work on HDG or default to ROLL when HDG was off. APPR mode wouldn't even light up when pressed. I'm on 2024 SU3 by the way.
Before the flight I did Load to ATC, but it did have a pre-loaded flight plan in the FMS with the waypoints I chose.

@Marionettework never had issues with AP when I loaded the FPL manually in the CDU. It was discussed before however, that when you use the native ATC flightplan that gets filled into the Starship, it may load incompatible procedures and will cause issues.

First, can you specify if you're using MSFS 2024 and SU3 beta, or something else?
I tried various ways to NOT load the native ATC flight plan into the FMS, but it seems forced unto me. I load a plan, either one that was saved by Simbrief or even create a very simple plan in the 2024 EFB. Either before or after starting the flight (cold and dark). The Starship starts with no flight plan loaded in the FMS. As soon as I send the flight plan from EFB to ACT (NOT to avionics), it nevertheless gets populated into the Starship FMS. At that point, hitting the FMS button does nothing, and the autopilot acts strange. Buttons don't seem to respond, but after fiddling with it, it seems like HDG mode is still usable. I flew a flight where HDG mode was clearly working, but the PFD was showing ROLL the whole time.
At this point I really can't figure out how to use 2024 with MSFS ATC. You need some flight plan for the ATC, but having a flight plan there, no matter where it comes from, seems to break the FMS.
This works fine in 2020 for Starship 0.1.1, and it seems to work OK in 2024 SU3 with Starship 0.1.0, which I just rolled back to. I don't see this FMS not working issue anymore, when I load a flight plan from the EFB to ATC. So since I want to use ATC in 2024, I'm kind of stuck with 0.1.0.

@Marionettework I use 2024 SU2.
Ah, you want to use the MSFS ATC. Then I'm not sure if that's possible, because yes, if you use Send to ATC it gets loaded into the Starship as well, whereas on other planes, you have to explicitly use the Send to Avionics for the plan to populate into the plane's systems. Maybe that's something @Black-Square Nick could look into?
I don't use native ATC, so I don't have this problem. You could try creating just the departure, destination and enroute waypoints in your ATC plan, without any procedures, then it may be compatible with the Starship's FMS. Starship doesn't support SIDs and STARs, so you'd be vectored by ATC instead.

I’ve reported issues with Starship FMS and arrival fixes in SU3 beta here: https://community.justflight.com/topic/8521/unable-to-enter-arrival-fixes-in-latest-su3-beta-1.5.12.0
SU2 seems to work fine, but I don’t use the native ATC and don’t send the FPL from EFB to the aircraft.

Do you have to do something special to avoid sending the flight plan to the aircraft? For me, as soon as I open the coms panel and request IFR clearance from ATC, it automatically populates a flight plan in the Starship FMS. I really hope we can have a way to use built in ATC in 2024.
