GNS restarts and clears approach when switching autopilot source
-
I posted this as a comment in another thread and thinks it deserves its own. I wanted to try to utilize a hybrid system, switching to the GNS for RNAVS, but whenever I change the fd source to GNS it restarts and deletes all the inputs. This makes flying FMS primary with GNS for RNAVS and other gps procedures untenable as by the time I get vectors I am too busy to reprogram the GNS. Anybody have a solution?

I have discussed this elsewhere on the this forum recently. You are describing my intended procedure, switching to the GNS in-flight when the need arises for a hold, or LPV.
I have seen the GNS losing the flight plan when switching for some users in my other aircraft. I have brought this to WT's attention, and I have spent a substantial amount of my own time trying to rewrite portions of their code to fix it. If I recall my research, I believe it can be mitigated with careful timing. I have an idea for a workaround on my end, but I haven't had the opportunity to explore it yet.

@Black-Square if you need someone to test if it's timing relevant, I could give it a try. I always lost my flight plan so far when switching source.

@Black-Square
Thanks so much for the response! Been flying ILS primary to mitigate for now. Will troubleshoot some more. Hopefully someone can find a solution! -
@Black-Square would not toggling it off and on solve the issue? Maybe less of a problem this way, even it's not like that in the real aircraft.

@Dingle What looks like toggling off and on is actually swapping out one GPS for another. WT's avionics don't support GPS hot-swapping the way others do like the GTN's. I've asked them to add a feature that would solve this problem, but they are focused on other things, for which I cannot blame them.
