Autopilot After SIM Update 14
-
Hello. I was having issues with my GNS 530 not working. I installed the code as suggested above and this corrected the problem, although another issue has come up. I was about 1/2 into a 1 hour flight flying happily along the GPS flight plan when the aircraft suddenly went into a deep nosedive and crashed. Is this a known problem with a fix?
MSFS, C208 Caravan, BS analogue version, Windows 10/64.
Thanks for any help.

@defcry Sorry to hear that you were frustrated before learning of this bug. Trust me, I am as disappointed with the time it took to fix this as you are. Sim Update 15 should be out by the end of this month, which should fix the issue with the WT GNS 530.
In the meantime, the code fix you implemented should absolutely fix this problem, so either you made the edit incorrectly (sorry that I declined to publish my own version of that file for the reasons discussed above), or there is another GPS addon in your community folder that is causing the conflict. The fastest way to rule this out would be just to temporarily remove everything from your community folder and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, then we can narrow down which addon is out-of-date, or not necessary.
I'm here to help! Let me know how it goes.

@Bigmary I'm glad you were able to fix your GNS problem. This fix will no longer be necessary after SU15, which should be released in two weeks. No, this does not sound like any issue we've ever had reported for any of my aircraft.
I'm happy to help, but that isn't much to go on. Were you able to disengage the autopilot? Did the controls in the cockpit depict a nose-down command, or was it aerodynamic in nature?
-
Thanks for the reply. I must admit I was doing something else when the aircraft was flying on AP so I was not watching when it happened. Generator was on and lots of fuel so the engine did not shut down. I will fly this route again so see if the problem recurs, this time we me alert in the cockpit.

Thank you, everyone, for waiting while Working Title sorted this out. Unfortunately, they did not have the resources to incorporate any of my numerous other fixes and improvements for the GNS that I supplied them with in SU15, but there is hope for the next sim update. I will keep you all posted.
Hi Nick - Just wanted to confirm my understanding of this response. Does the above mean that some of the fixes that were provided a few months back still need to be made manually? I had made all of them at the time ( including the optional ones) and they seemed to have fixed things. However, I haven't flown much lately due to a new, non-simulated puppy who prefers to chew wires rather than watch me fly planes. (Perhaps you could add "maniac cockapoo" to the failure list so others could experience this unpredictable event).
Anyway - are some of the original edits still needed now after SU15?
Thanks!

@ultradianguy I'm working on it. We'll hopefully have this up as a FAQ as soon as I've actually come up with some wording that makes it understandable without all the surrounding context from these threads.
Hi Ian - related to my above question to Nick, if some edits are still needed after the last update, did you end up creating that FAQ? Or maybe it's moot after the update.
-
Those are some very amusing circumstances, haha. Thank you for sharing. I have a friend who has recently be plagued by kittens with an affinity for wires as well.
Yes, believe it or not, we are all still waiting for the official fix from Working Title by way of Sim Update 15. As you may have heard, SU15 was supposed to release a week or two ago, but was delayed by Asobo. We don't have a firm date yet, except for "sometime in April".
As soon as SU15 is released, everyone can disregard this thread. Also, anyone on the SU15 Beta can disregard this thread.
Until then, if you are not on the SU15 beta, then all the changes above still need to be applied, unfortunately. I hope that answers your question. Always happy to help.

@Black-Square Thanks! I think my question was irrelevant now that I realize the update isn't out yet.

@Black-Square
Hello I saw your instructions on how to fix 530 and 430. I’m not very savvy when it comes to this. Can you please be a little more detailed on how to search for update loop? I don’t know how to find that. Thank you. I really want to fix my avionics on all my black square planes -
@michaelvillagran87 I did a little tuto on the msfs forum : https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/released-black-square-advanced-turbine-and-piston-dukes/601041/406?u=nikotin3420

Thank you so much for making your tutorial, Nico! I've already linked a few users to it, and they've found it very helpful!

you are welcome, it s always a pleasure to help ! :0)

I am having the original autopilot problem even though we are now on SU15. The AP is engaged on heading mode but it’s not following the heading bug. If I move my flight stick the yoke in the sim moves the opposite direction until AP disengages and then the device and the sim yoke sync back up. I am using the premium pms50 gtn 750. What should I do to fix?
-
got the same problem - AP is not following flight path whether its HDG mode or NAV mode. I need to switch it off and on for a couple of times and then aircraft starts to follow magenta line. There is something not right with AP in TBM850 although it is a great aircraft
-
@szymek2392 well at least I’m not alone, thanks for letting me know. Was about to lose my mind.
-
@boatmanmcgee no problem, I have also asked that on mfs forum https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/released-v-1-1-black-square-tbm-850/607459/1181?u=szymek231992 but so far no luck. I have also seen that people mention that they do have some issues (e.g yt videos, streams etc). I believe TBM 850 was left for a bit as devs focus mainly on duke
-
Funny you should ask about the TBM, since I just returned to add the new Duke features to it today. Unfortunately, I've just spent the last few minutes trying to induce the behavior you're describing with no luck. Does this happen reliably enough that you would be able to send me a video of it happening?
The yoke moving in the opposite direction as your hardware input will happen in any MSFS aircraft, though. In a real aircraft, the autopilot servos apply torque to counteract the force you put on the yoke, but in the simulator, the only way it can counteract your input is by trying to displace the control surface in the opposite direction.
-
I recalibrated my Vkb gunfighter stick and added a higher deadline and it is seemingly not happening any more. I wonder if it had something to do with the sensitivity of the stick and not much of a dead zone somehow messing with the autopilot.
-
Hardware controls with potentiometers (as opposed to hall effect sensors) can sometimes suddenly go to full deflection, even when they are not being moved. Sometimes you can clean them just exercising them vigorously. I have to do this with the rotary controls on my Saitek X52 periodically, or else my mixture will suddenly roll back to zero.
Please let me know if you see this again, and try to catch a video, if you can. Thank you!
