There seems to be a problem withe new Piper Archer III
-
Hi,
The standard GPS is based on the default unit and it doesn't require the Flight1 GNS product to function, although that does add lots more functionality not offered by the default unit.
Please submit a support ticket so we can investigate this further - https://support.justflight.com/support/tickets/new
Thanks

I have the Archer III for XP11 and just purchased it for FSX today. I am interested in what support finds because I believe this aircraft is grossly underpowered as well. I compared the two from the same airport, same altitude, same fuel weight and i can cruise at 100 knots with the throttle retarded to the R in throttle and the mixture leaned. With the FSX version I have to keep the throttle at full and lean the mixture and can only get to 80 knots at 7,000ft. So something is difinitely different between the two aircraft. The FSX version is a disappointment compared to the XP11 version.

I have this same problem as well, cruise performance is WAY too slow. The only way I can get 115 - 120 KTAS in cruise is if I firewall the throttle and over speed the prop by 200 rpm. I fly warriors as well in real life and this plane’s cruise performance is worse than the warriors, which doesn’t make any sense as it has 20 more HP than them.

@Wiggi001 Just to be clear, the delay is largely down to me - I work independantly, fit in the fde work around my real life work and family and since the end of last year I have had a major piece of building work going on on my house (which is still ongoing and has also taken up much of my time). I have just about managed to keep up with the scheduled releases that were planned last year but have had to put updates on the back-burner.
As Martyn mentioned, I am now looking at this as I have a short lull in the schedule - the Bhp output was a tad low and I am also working to prevent the prop from overspeeding. Once the latter is sorted, I can set the power and hopefully it'll be good to go.
Cheers,
Paul. -
Would be great if you could add the extra horsepower. Just bought the plane yesterday after comparing to another Cherokee - really like how you folks do planes now.
To add some extra detail as you play with the parameters... The plane is really dogging it at altitudes above 8k. 8k is a good cruise altitude for that plane and it can barely hold 80 kts clean and leaned to max RPM (with wheel pants). Takeoff acceleration is strangely OK; it just can't climb even lightly loaded below ISA. The service ceiling for the Archer is 13k, and I am getting climb rates of 100 fpm max at 8-9k (below ISA) - which are service ceiling climb rates.
FWIW I have time in Warriors, Archers and Arrows. Did my checkride in an Archer after training the whole time in a Warrior. I passed, but that was a bad idea as I did not think 20 extra horses would do much - it did. Sadly my flight school let me do it since it was the only plane available. Point is, subtle changes can make a big difference. The 200 HP Arrow is a rocket ship comparatively.
Thx for your efforts.

I believe I may have found a good temporary fix for the Archer III until Just Flight releases an update:
First, open the aircraft.cfg for the JF Archer III.
Under [flight_tuning], change the value of "parasite_drag_scalar" from 1.0 to 0.5.
Under [piston_engine], change the value of "max_rpm_mechanical_efficiency_scalar" from 1.0 to 0.9 (ignore the fact that is says "Always 1.0).
Finally, also under [piston_engine], change the value of "bestpowerspecificfuelconsumption" from 0.52 to 0.8.These changes should give you more accurate cruise performance in terms of True Airspeed and Fuel Flow, and also help with the issue of the prop overspeeding.
Hope this helps,

AlecIt is very close - thanks for this - JF says that if a developer responded to the forum then it is in a list of fixes for the next patch - no timetable.
But this solves the problem!

Actually it helps a bit, but I still have the prop overspeed (And autopilot issues). I am adding this comment to make sure that JF don’t mistakenly think the plane works. The FDE needs the update. I have been waiting on a ticket response for months. New planes keep coming out...

Just heard back that a new update is out with FDE fixes. Thanks for following through Just Flight!

@Delta558 - So at lt last there's a patch! Still not performing anythink like it should! Takes off like a rocket, EGT gauge still not fixed, still has a tendency for prop over speed and for a simple model is very graphics intensive which really pulls down the FPS. Still disappointed!

@Wiggi001 To put it very simply, if you are getting the prop to overspeed in any situation other than a sudden dive at around 140kts then you are not flying the updated files. Not sure where the problem lies with that and until there's been some digging I can't suggest much sorry.

I see there is no further update to this very flawed product.
Take off accelaration on the ground still far to quick.
Climb performance is more akin to a polaris missile and cruise speed is just wrong.Product now deleted and I will not be purchasing from Just Flight again.

@Wiggi001 That's your opinion and no problem with that. It's been checked here again and we can't reproduce the issues using the latest build (from Nov 19), the FDE seems fine.
But if it doesn't work as you'd wish and that will mean you won't be using the aircraft then please contact the support team who will be happy to issue you with a refund. This Archer has been very well received since release and has become a favourite add-on for many users. However we'd not want anyone sat on an aircraft they can't use so please feel free to do as I suggest above and claim your refund.
