When using peripherals that react on the state of certain SimConnect variables (e.g. showing the status of the light switches), I noticed that there's something wrong with the variable LIGHT BEACON ON.
Turning the Beacon on in the cockpit leaves the variable still to be 0 (=off) when reading it.
Once I switch to the external view, suddenly the variable flips to 1 (=on) which is the correct value. Whenever I return to the interior view, the variable flips back to 0 again.

This does not happen with the landing light status, seems like only the beacon is affected.

Anyone noticed that as well? I guess I'll open a ticket in parallell.

@copper I made a support ticket about this a while ago and they did this to solve a MSFS problem with the beacon light bleeding through the fuselage i believe. I think they have to turn off the effect when you're in the cockpit to prevent the light bleeding from happening. I think the variable triggers the light error.

I think Asobo has to fix that first.

Ahhh, got it. Strange that other aircraft don't have this bleeding into the cabin.

Also I have to check but if the beacon would remain on, one should be able to see a bit of reflections from the inside on the wings. I guess this effect is also inhibited by this workaround then - never noticed it.

@copper I get this problem with more addon aircraft though, and only when the engine is running. I don't know if it's for the same reason but i still think it's a strange issue.

Does the variable work for you when the engine is turned off?

Like in FSX/P3D, the beacon light will unfortunately 'bleed through' the fuselage and illuminate the rear baggage area, therefore the beacon is automatically disabled when the cockpit view is in use. We'll remove that logic as soon as we have a solution for the issue.

Nope, since the beacon is turned on before engine start, I noticed that issue on the first try using the variable. It shows neither before nor after engine start.

Alright :) Let's hope Asobo is aware of the issue and is actually planning to fix it.

So currently it means that other players see my aircraft (even if they have the addon) always with beacon off except if I'm in external view? That's a bit sad...
Not sure if there's a way to change the beacon light from omnidirectional to a regular light with a wide angle but orient it so that it does not emit light towards the critical area which illuminates the interior.

Yes, I think that'll be the solution until Asobo fix the ability for lights to emit through mesh.
