    Hi,

I've been flying the Hawk for a long time but recently decided to try proper navigation. I've followed the tutorial flight - I just can't get the TACAN to pick-up, even if I'm just a few miles from the WAL VOR. Is there some secret click-spot or specific aircraft config required to get it working?

This was on PC FS24/SU3 and now SU4.

    Any help appreciated, Neil.

In order to track a TACAN in the Hawk you'll need to do the following:

      1. On the TACAN panel, tune the TACAN frequency (for example, Wittering 123X)
      2. Set the TACAN mode to TX/RX
      3. On the main instrument panel, the ILS/TACAN button should be depressed until TACAN is illuminated in green.

Once the aircraft is in range of the TACAN, the distance and bearing will be indicated on the HSI.

If you wish to use the Autopilot controls on the EFB to track the TACAN, you'll need to switch the UHF Ae switch to "Lower" on the far right side of the right console (this toggles between traditional navigation and GPS navigation).

      Hope that helps.

        Hi Mark,

Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve found I can track to a TACAN just not the WAL VOR as described in the tutorial flight…

“ Rotate the IFF/SSR master knob to STBY (standby) to power it up. Confirm that the TEST PASS message is
        shown on the display.
Rotate the TACAN function selector to TX/RX to power up the receiver. Tune the first TACAN (VOR/DME) on our
flight plan, Wallasey (WAL) – 114.10 – by selecting 088 and rotating the mode selector to X. The tooltip on the
channel selectors will indicate that 114.10 is tuned.
Confirm that the navigation mode selector, located to the right of the HSI, is set to TACAN. The HSI will now
show distance and bearing information to the Wallasey (WAL) TACAN (VOR/DME) when in range of the aircraft”

I never get any indication no matter how close I get to WAL. I can use WAL as a traditional VOR of course which is fine. Maybe something changed in SU3/SU4 and the manual needs an update.

        One again, many thanks, Neil.
