A wish for some more realistic GPS options

Tim-HH, I hear you loud and clear. From the developer's perspective, the GTN models are a very nice addition to be able to slap in their models. I have the TDS GTNXi 750/650. And sadly, I've become so excited about using them that if a model doesn't have them available, I sometimes pass on buying it. Now from your perspective, it's just not as true to real life because this is a basic trainer model. The cool part is that fortunately both fuel and GPS units in the flight sim are cheap, thank God. So I think we sometimes forget about the full aspects of reality :)

I agree on the GNS430 and GTN650 option, as they seem more appropriate for such a small trainer
But maybe also a single GTN750 + an ordinary Com2 Radio would be great due to the larger display on the 750.Right now I have the GTN750+650 from TDS enabled, but rarely uses the 650 for anything else than Com2 and Trafic display.

I don't know, this guy didn't spare any expense:

I support this idea. Single GTN650, single GTN750, KLN90 all seem like good, realistic suggestions. I like the 750/650 combo, a dual 750 combo would be even better! Haha.
Makes me think of the upcoming Duke, with a plethora of possible combinations.

@Wothan Thanks, I'm reminded of the time when the GNS430/530 came to market. Back then many flight schools and owners reluctantly bought the GNS430 because they did want to have GPS, but refused the 530 due to its high cost. So we saw a lot of VFR certified aircraft flying around with the small screen units for a long time. After all it is perfectly sufficient if one only flies VFR.
So with the Tomahawk being an old basic VFR trainer, somehow the large screen units just don't fit. Hence a single 430/650 option would be perfect; Ignore it when flying VFR, but have one at hand for when the need arises. -
Thank you all for the feedback. We have looked into this with the PA28s and PA38, and I believe the limitation is with the Working Title GNS430/530 we have to tell the simulator which unit (GNS 430 or GNS 530) is fitted as COM/NAV1, and which unit is fitted as COM/NAV2. Currently, we have the GNS530 fitted as COM/NAV1 and the GNS430 fitted as COM/NAV2. This means that in every GPS configuration in the aircraft, the GNS530 will always serve as the COM/NAV1 radios.
If we were to change this so the GNS430 is fitted as COM/NAV1, that would mean we would have a "GNS430 ONLY" configuration in place of a "GNS530 ONLY" option, but we likely wouldn't have a "GNS DUAL" configuration as having a GNS430 as COM/NAV1 and a COM/NAV2 doesn't seem right. This is why we chose to have the current configuration, as it allows us to have an extra GPS configuration in the aircraft.
We do have this feedback logged on our internal feature request tracker for the PA28s and PA38, so we will continue to investigate this to see if there are any workarounds we can apply.

@Mark Appreciate the reply Mark! Would it be any different for a single GTN650 unit from TDS? Or is that one presenting you the same limitations? I'll take any small screen unit really, if a single GNS430 doesn't work then I'm perfectly happy with a GTN650... or the KLN90B mentioned above :)

We'll take a look at what options we have for the next update to the Tomahawk. We don't like to take away functionality/features from our products unless we really have to, so we are a bit hesitant about removing the GNS530 entirely. We will look into adding an additional GPS like the KLN90B though.
We can't give guarantees at this stage as we still have to properly investigate what options we have, but we will see what we can do.

I agree on not taking away features...if it comes to that, please don't remove the GNS530.
I mean if a single 430 can't be added by itself due to limitations of the units, and it MUST be paired with the 530, then by all means please keep the 430+530 combo.
Option for the KLN90B would be really nice.
