State Saving in MSFS 2024
-
Posting this at a very top level because I think it applies both to JF products and Black Square.
For the purposes of state saving, does End Flight work the same as Main Menu when exiting? Is one preferable to the other?
I know the saving requires you to exit the sim normally instead of outright closing it immediately, but 2020 did not have an End Flight option that took you back to the world map to start another flight, so Main Menu was a necessary step.

Hey @jmarkows,
Are you still having issues with state saving in MSFS 2024? I am flying the Just Flight Warrior II and it does not save the state of anything upon ending the flight. I end one flight, start another in the same plane, and it resets everything back to how it was the first time after installation.
Thanks for any details you are able to provide

I thought it was working the last time I tried it. You have State Saving enabled in the tablet?
This topic was just to see if End Flight makes a difference compared to the Main Menu option, which I never did get an answer for (nor try extensively to see myself).

@jmarkows Affirmative, State Saving is enabled in the tablet. The state saving button is lighter gray and I hear the "State saving enabled message" after enabling it. I also to the desktop using MSFS, via End Flight and then Main Menu, rather than pressing ALT-F4 or closing MSFS using the X.
I'd think that the API that's used to save the state of items will save it locally immediately, so that even if the flight wasn't ended via End Flight and/or Main Menu, that the states would properly load upon coming into the save aircraft/liver. However, I am not sure how it's implemented.
Thanks for replying.

@dukman821 No, at the very least the game must be ended normally through the main menu in order for state saving to work. The state is not saved until you quit. If you directly exit to the desktop via the Stop button Steam, Alt-F4, or some other means that's not backing out to the main menu gracefully, it won't work.
This is true of every add-on with state saving that I'm aware of.

After SU4 there is a new bug in Black Square and many other planes, what has worked before (just quitting by using end flight or main menu - there was no difference as long as it was one of those 2 options - often doesn't work anymore). The bug makes it more complicated. Now the easiest way to do it is to press Restart after the flight and let the new flight load.
Then you can do whatever you like after that.

@jmarkows Yes, I always exit using End Flight or Main Menu, depending on if I want to go for another flight or finish up for the session. I have never exited from the Sim using the Stop button in Steam or closing the window via Windows, unless it's frozen.
Either way, the state saving doesn't function as expected. See testing performed recently in this thread: Aircraft Configuration Not Saved In MSFS 2024
@Tadeus72 Yeah, I didn't notice a difference between either the End Flight and Main Menu button exit methods either; both seemed to result in the same aircraft state upon reload when tested in the previously mentioned tests.
