I noticed in 24 it almost looks like the gauges have a film on them or something. It's hard to explain but it looks different than the 2020. You seeing that too?

Yes, it looks like it was water spotted or something. I have to admit it adds a little character to the otherwise very clean gauges we had in 2020. Unfortunately, the problem with the Duke is at night. The lighting is not the same so the gauges are borked at night.

Yes, Asobo completely changed the way that one of the color channels in the material properties texture is interpreted for glass, breaking reverse compatibility. Luckily, this is an easy fix. The lighting on the other hand, is also completely different between the two simulators with little documentation of the minute changes. Lighting intensities appeared to be in flux until SU2. I've had to essentially redo all lighting on all my aircraft in MSFS 2024, and I believe the result is still worse than MSFS 2020. In fact, I believe many aspects of my aircraft were degraded by 2024, which is hard to watch, as a developer. I'm glad that you have all been saying that my aircraft are "mostly working in 2024", because all the minute details that were changed have been devastating for me.

I plan on publishing a news update on Just Flight's website at the beginning of this week where I will share more. Thank you all for being patient while MSFS 2024 is still changing significantly.

Hopefully 2024 will allow improvements as it becomes updated more. SU2 seems to be the only stable build its had. SU3 will allow local content downloads which I think will bring a lot more users over from 2020. 2020/2024 has become the P3D of modern times. Each update breaks things, and that is not good for developers. The sky, ground and many things are so much better in 2024 though. I think it'll become a better replacement for 2020 in time. 2020 was a mess when it released too, lol.

@Black-Square long time lurker, maybe my first comment, but ya I’ve seen many/most of the issues that you and others are bringing up, but fundamentally the Dukes are great in 2024 in my experience. Although as also a software dev and perfectionist, can totally relate. Not for flight sims or even video games in general, but nothing is worse than a platform breaking your hard work and nobody notices as much as you if you’re a good one, which you clearly are.

I understand why devs don’t like to do this but I would love if the update included a vague timeframe on roughly when to expect the first of the Professional Bonanza/Baron/Caravans. No pressure, just curious how far on the edge of my seat I should be for them 😂.

Thank you for your message, long time lurker! It sounds like you really do understand the plight of modern software development, which makes your message meaningful. We're going to be publishing an update on all Black Square development this week (possibly later today), which has just a small mention of those three Professional Series aircraft. The Baron and Bonanza look like they will be first to release, followed by the Caravan. I expect them all to be released this year, but you never know what might come up. They are all nearly complete, so they shouldn't be too much trouble. Thanks for asking! I'm glad to hear so many people are interested in the Professional Series, because it makes me happy to bring such vast improvements to my existing fleet.

@Black-Square Yeah it can take a frustratingly large amount of time and effort to just make something look and work …exactly like it used to and completely indiscernible to the user, except it works properly on the new platform.

Very excited for them! I have some but not all of the steam gauge overhauls, and the Dukes. I like doing challenging bad weather/high altitude etc takeoffs and landings, I’m excited for some GA planes at that same level of detail as the Dukes, but actually somewhat less capable while still being bad weather capable. The Dukes almost make it too easy! Side question, planning on having drive capability on the Bonanza or no?

FWIW, I’m on Xbox and SU2 beta, and my custom registration does not work. It’s either black or white squares, sometimes flickering, or the lettering is so big, it’s displaying like two characters.

But here’s a fun one. I spawned at Monterrey (KMRY), and as soon as I took off, I was picking up an ATIS from nearby Salinas (KSNS). I thought it must be the COM2, because I had been talking to ATC on COM1. Switched over to standby frequency on COM2, still picking up ATIS. Sometimes ATIS can be a bit bugged, tried switching back and forth a couple times. Changed all four frequencies, standby and active, still picking up ATIS. Tried to turn down the volume, switch off the COMs on audio panel, changed avionics, same problem. The only way to stop the message was to completely shut down avionics, which is… not practical.

I ended the flight, and after a little bit of investigating, I found out, that default planes spawn in, with their radios tuned to 124.850 MHz. Which happens to be the frequency of the KSNS ATIS. Now, the Dukes, of course, remember your frequencies from the previous flight, and therefore don’t spawn with this default 124.850MHz. I’m not super technical, and obviously have no idea how it works, but I wonder if the default frequency somehow still gets loaded “underneath“? Even if it’s not shown to the user? Which could cause the problem?

I tried to recreate the problem in other planes, but I couldn’t. And I couldn’t either in the Duke. I thought it was a one-time fluke. After the recent city update, though, I was flying around San Francisco and when I went to land at KSFO, I started to pick up the Salinas ATIS again. And neither of my frequencies were tuned to 124.850MHz. Just weird.

I noticed this exact same thing too yesterday.

Let’s hope they get it sorted.

@Black-Square so we need to wait after Flight Sim Expo for Dukes update? After you'll release Starship first ? It's that correct ?

@Black-Square also props(pun intended) again man!!! Already started skimming the Starship manual and just incredible work. Can’t imagine doing that all by myself. Cannot wait to dig into all those weird not-quite-vintage but not-quite-modern full glass avionics

Hi, I'm just wanting to touch base on this, as I'm still running only MSFS2020 and not willing to go to MSFS2024 until the Dukes are compatible ... are you able to please provide an update or possible timelines? Many thanks, John.

I am not going to 2024 until it is as stable as 2020, which could be months away frankly.

@Captain_J lol, Bob there is not the dev and is just expressing his own personal choice.

Nick has not made any formal announcements since FSExpo that I'm aware of, but FS24 updates are coming at some point in the hopefully not too distant future from what has been said previously. People on the forums have reported dragging the Duke folder from the 2020 Community folder into the 2024 one with varying degrees of success.

I think, though I am also not the dev, the big sticking point is Nick's dynamic registration scheme is completely SNAFU in 2024 and Asobo doesn't seem to have much interest in fixing the issues he's reporting. It's wholesale disabled in the Starship for 2024, and from forum posts it seems like he's reluctant to release other planes without that functionality, but may just do it anyway if headway isn't being made.

I think he might be waiting for SU3 which hopefully should be out in August. That's my hope anyway, because I bought the Duke without realising it was not officially updated for 24. I was going to try some stuff to trick the installer into installing the plane and dragging it into to 2024 but I think, based on some YouTube videos, I can see some stuff isn't right so I haven't bothered. Anyway, I wait patiently.

That's correct. I've been waiting for SU3, which I thought we would released in June, based on previous schedules. Then it was supposed to be something like July 7th, then last week I heard definitely the 28th. I have new versions of all my aircraft ready to launch, so it's just a waiting game now.

I apologize that we are now nine months into MSFS 2024 without official compatibility for my aircraft, but MSFS 2024 has been less reverse compatible than expected, and much less stable in the beta versions than I could have predicted. You have my apologizes. I plan to release the updates for all my aircraft when SU3 releases, regardless of the long-standing bugs in 2024 that I'm still not expecting to be fixed.

I moved the turbine duke from the community folder in 2020 to the 2024 community folder about 3 months ago when I changed from the 2020 sim to the 2024 sim. The duke has not missed a beat, but I have been in the beta all of the time, yes, the dynamic rego was missing at the start, but since the su3 beta, everything is working as it did in 2020. But I can understand why Nick is waiting for the full release of su3. Still, I am hoping that in the update, the co-pilot is visible from the inside, smiles...

@Black-Square Apologies for the ping. I'm currently eyeing the Duke sale bundle and am on the fence on whether to pull the trigger or not. I've bought addons in the past that I ultimately ended up not flying, so I'm a bit wary. I looked around but couldn't find much information on what to expect of the compatibility update. I understand it'll be free for existing owners? I'm mainly curious about walkaround features and especially if it'll have the headphone jack clickspot with adjustable noise cancelling from the Starship. Love you and thanks!

If you do purchase the piston and turbine Duke package and want to install it in MSFS 2024 this is the only way it works with the current installer. Support wrote me back and said they are working on a SFS 2024 installer when the new update comes out for 2024 compatibility so in the meantime, just use this method ….the planes are working great for me in 2024.

                                          1. Create directory "Microsoft Flight Simulator" inside directory
                                            "C:\Users%USERNAME%|AppData|Roaming"
                                          2. Copy file "UserCfg.opt" from
                                            "C:\Users%USERNAME%\AppData\Local|Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8
wekyb3d8bbwelLocalCache" into newly created directory above (1.)
That's it - then you can run installer and after install you can remove directory from 1.
