Pausing sim appears to cause unrecoverable autopilot disconnect

This happened twice when I pause the sim to adjust my key bindings.
The minute I returned to the sim, the autopilot was disconnected and I could not re-engage it no matter what I tried.

Perhaps I'm missing something but there seems to be a connection.

Attempted a third flight with no pause and it flew perfectly.
