Out of nowhere tonight I'm having really weird issues with the Commander. I started up normally like always, then about 5 minutes later as I was about to taxi the engine shutoff, and I got the MSFS default "engine malfunction" warning. Went ahead and repaired my engine which was at 99% though showing no other failures for anything in the EFB, but it made no difference. Quit the game and installed the 1.1a patch which I didn't realize was available, started the flight again and the engine started, then a few minutes later the same thing happened? What in the world is going on?

Have you double checked that Crash Damage, Aircraft Stress Damage, and Aircraft Engine Damage are all disabled? A similar thing happened to me in the Bonanza a while ago and somehow Aircraft Engine Damage had gotten enabled, maybe by a sim update.

With the Aircraft Engine Damage disabled in MSFS no complete engine failures are simulated with the Commander (and some other Black Square aircaft).

I tried a bunch of things and it only started working again once I disabled aircraft stress damage and engine damage, but im worried that disables the Blacksquare engine wear/tear. I might try turning it back off tonight. Maybe only stress damage needs to be off? Makes no sense that this only started happening randomly after flying the plane for like 30 hours though. This was in the turbo by the way, not sure if the NA version has the same problem.

@rinkerbuck try leaving engine damage on with stress damage and crash damage off, that is usually the recommended setup. I also wonder if this could possibly be key-bind related if that doesn't work.

Aircraft stress damage should be off and engine stress damage on.

Black Square only requires engine damage, and somewhere else on these forums it was discovered a few months ago that one of the other damage types being enabled is damaging the engine under the hood and outside of the Black Square system, so they should be disabled.

... remembering of course that when the check mark is "ON" you're actually DISABLING the damage - so "tick the boxes" to disable Crash and Aircraft Stress damage, but leave the Engine Stress box unticked.

Or have I got this totally back-to-front?

I'll be away from my sim pc for a few more days, but I believe you're correct on this important point.
