Storm scope not working?
-
Was flying with live weather, no weather addons, around NYC klga and Kjfk, about 9-10 PM EST

Does anyone have the actual device just jittering about? Aircraft is cold n dark and the device is just jiggling around lol

Yes, I’ve noticed that too

Haven't seen the jittering myself, thats a bit disturbing

It's the same effect as discussed here. I have put more time into trying to solve this problem over the years than any other single issue. It's seems highly dependent on your render settings, though.

have flown around lighting a few more times now and the storm scope has never once worked.

@rinkerbuck Next time you think you should be seeing strikes on the scope, could you please take note of the atmospheric conditions, as they would appear in a METAR, and report back? That's really the only way I can diagnose whether this is a software issue, an algorithmic issue, or a weather issue.

Will do. Tonight is actually the first time I've seen it work, with strikes showing up around 80 miles away from me from the storms over there. So it seems like maybe it has an issue with detecting anything really close, but not far away.

@rinkerbuck I will appreciate any tests results or insight that you're willing to share, but there shouldn't be any difference between near or far strikes. Distance just doesn't factor into how the system works at all.

I'm curious to know how you've coded the storm scope to work. I have only seen about three strike detections for 1 storm in live wxr while I was observing dozens out the window. I've also flown past a number of storm cells that visually had lightning, but nothing on the scope. As it stands my storm scope is primarily serving as a spotty electrical system monitor for the aircraft, lol.
