    Did these planes really cruise with only a N1 value of 77-78% at FL 300 to FL 350? (That's at .68 to .70 mach)

      Yes that's spot on. The flight with unreliable airspeed section of the manual suggests to set 78% N1 which would result in Mach 0.70 at FL300.
