No, don't have the Piaggio at all. The only Boris sound pack I have is for the 2020 version of the PMDG 737 which I use in 2024 but I've not touched that sinced buying the Caravan bundle. Some people have reported no sound but that doesn't apply to me, the sound is there its just the in cockpit engine sound level that's very quiet. If I open the window it's as loud as you'd expect.

@Paul-in-Keighley Thanks for the information. Obviously, that shouldn't be the case. You say, "disturbingly quiet", and I've seen others say "like a glider". Clearly something is wrong. We've never seen this with any of my other aircraft, but it's difficult for me to diagnose with this very poorly timed Piaggio mixup. If you were willing to help us diagnose the problem, I would be most interested to hear if there is any difference with no other aircraft in your community folder, and if not, perhaps a short video recording to show us what you are experiencing.

Just done a little experiment, turned off FS Realistic+ completely to eliminate that and dropped all MSFS sound levels to 50 apart from engines. This has noticeably improved things when airborne, dropping them to 25 would likely make things even better. I tried changing the sound output type device to TV, hi fi etc but that didn't seem to make any difference whatsover, I use an old Bose soundbar. So it seems to me that it's just a sound level thing but perhaps the Caravan has better sound insulation than other aircraft. I did think that the cargo version was louder but my mind may be playing tricks. Will have a play with that and report back. I am noticing a handful of others finding issues with sound over on the MSFS forum but there can't be a major problem as I'm sure we would be seeing a load more posts. Yeah, bit of a strange one, can't recall any other aircraft having a similar issue.

@Black-Square i am happy to help as well. please let me know if there's something specific you want me to test. in my case, all the sounds aside from the engine sound fine. switches, alarms, etc. sound just as crisp as all your other planes. the engine sounds from the cockpit are very muffled.

i am on fs'20. i do own the flightfx piaggio however i have not updated the plane to it's latest version and haven't flown it in quite some time.

@scoobyx Thanks for weighing in. Since you've been very vocal about your disappointment, I would be interested to hear what you're listening to, and see if it differs at all from what I can hear on my own computer. Clearly, I would not have released an aircraft with April Fools sounds, so I do wonder if there is some deeper problem at play here than personal taste. I'm worried that I will hear no difference between our two installations, but I suppose that's important data in itself, if you're willing to share a video.

I also think the sounds were pretty quiet compared to other planes, but I didn’t see it as an issue. I do have the Piaggio installed, I’ll remove it this evening and check^^

Have tested the cargo variant engine sound level against the passenger one and it seems the same to my cloth ears. Dropped all volume levels to 20 apart from engine sounds and this has fixed things for me inasmuch as it sounds like I would expect it to in the cockpit (which may or may not be accurate but its sounds "right" to me). I'll continue to keep an eye open for other posts on this subject in case it's not just a user preference thing. Thanks for the aircraft by the way, it's been a worthwhile wait!

Hi. I'd also like to report that I had the no sound/very very quiet sound two times. I first thought it was related to sound devices as it seemed to happen when I quit/restarted the PimaxPlay client. I had originally selected "default" as sound devices in MSFS2024 as it has seemed to be the best option since Pimax sound device is only present when PimaxPlay is running. It gets removed when the software is stopped. Since I changed the sound devices to Pimax in MSFS2024 I haven't had the sound problem with Caravan. And yes, I have the Piaggio installed. I can't of course say for sure this was the issue, because it's only been few sessions and few flights but so far it looks like it fixed.

It is possible to fly with sounds after a reinstall or restart ; but not every time.
The fault affects other BlackSquare aircraft like the Turbo Duke and changing sound settings has no effect.
After some restarts ( and I mean some ) the Caravan will start perfectly but without a further restart other aircraft are affected in the same way ... no engine sound.
The FFX Avanti seems to be higlighted as a main source of conflict but I'm not too sure. Having flown the Avanti and then restarted the sim to fly the Caravan there was no sound. A further restart and the Caravan started normally.
I expected glitches but it's not often we see one addon aircraft afecting so many others. I'm sure it will be fixed but until then it wont be used.

@Black-Square here is the video i pulled together. it's sectioned off by some time in the caravan pro cockpit, then the turbine duke cockpit, and finally the analog caravan cockpit using the ftsim+ sounds. Please excuse the beginner-level editing and lack of adherence to checklists. I'll repair my engines prior to my next flights, I promise.

I wanted to try to pull together a small sample of sounds that might help me compose some more meaningful thoughts to give you.

I realize sounds are super subjective so take this feedback as you please. The engine sounds on the new caravan pro sound much quieter to me, especially at the ends of the throttle (at idle, it sounds like there's a cabin fan running in the background, not an engine) and at max power it just feels like it's missing that throaty roar that you get out of the other two soundscapes. It just feels like it lacks depth and purpose.

I was also noticing that there was almost no difference when moving the condition lever from low to high or back in the new caravan pro. There should be something more going on here, right?

Something seems off with the beta / reverse thrust but since my IRL piloting experience is limited to single-engine pistons, I don't have real-world experience to base this off of. It just sounds thin and not throaty like I would expect.

Honestly, now that I am reading back through this it sounds to me like the entire engine soundscape is lacking bass and depth. That's the best way I could describe my experience.

I hope this helps. I am happy to do more testing / sampling / whatever if it would help you. Also, as an aside I initially started up my sim, uninstalled the FlightFX Piaggio and restarted the sim prior to collecting these samples. I don't think that causes an issue on '20 but I wanted to eliminate it from the board just in case.

I think that I may have solved my sound issues by switching from the Nvidia 27E1QA sound to the RealTek driver.
Early days but it seems to allow switching aircraft while preserving the aircraft sounds.

After some testing I think the standard engine volume level inside should be the one you get when pulling both VENTS around halfway. Then it seems reasonable for what you hear in similar planes + what can be judged from real life recordings. It seems like closing the VENTS (leaving them closed) is giving too strong of a muffling/sound isolation effect.

As an intermediate solution I'm now constantly pulling both vents around 60-70% out during all phases of flight, and it sounds reasonable then.

I watched your video out of curiosity, as I do not have many issues with the BKSQ caravan sounds as they are. Big question: did you adjust the sound levels in any way to normalize them for your video, against the other two aircraft?

If not, then I don't really see a problem. This is just my personal opinion...take it however you would like, as I'm just trying to explain what I think your gripes are. I am a major audiophile when it comes to flightsim. I am quite particular about this aspect. (Back in the day I did a ton of sound modding for P3D/FSX, but the MSFS WWise system doesn't lend itself to end-user tinkering).

I think, basically, if you're inside of a single-engine turboprop such as a Caravan, PC-12, or a TBM, you would not hear the prop buzz the same as a twin like the Duke. The prop sound transmits through the airframe as vibrations leading to a continuous hum, but because it's very far forward of your ear, it's not the predominant sound as with a twin. The other engine sounds you hear inside are related to other components of the engine. This, I know from personal experience.

IMO, I don't think FTSIM has made any sound packs for MSFS that are even remotely decent, except for the MD80. FTSIM's Caravan sound pack adds a lot of bass and drama, but it doesn't sound like a Caravan. Not really a fair comparison.

You should try opening some of the ram-air vents if you want "MOAR PROP". There are vernier levers on the far left/right sides of the main panel for the pilots. Boris set each one of those up to introduce some variable air blowing sound and exterior engine noise. Like I said, they're variable so you really just have to crack them to make a difference (it shouldn't affect your cabin temp very much).

You should try opening some of the ram-air vents if you want "MOAR PROP". There are vernier levers on the far left/right sides of the main panel for the pilots. Boris set each one of those up to introduce some variable air blowing sound and exterior engine noise. Like I said, they're variable so you really just have to crack them to make a difference (it shouldn't affect your cabin temp very much).

thanks for the recommendation on the ram air vents. i had made that discovery early on when messing around with stuff in the cockpit.

i didn't make any changes to the audio i uploaded. i wouldn't even know how to go about doing that.

i had included the other samples more for me to hear them side by side and less about, "this is what i think this plane should sound like". i wasn't clear about that intent. and I only used a very small handful of ftsim's sounds as i felt they missed more times than they hit as well.

the engine sounds for me are much less about prop noise and more about the overall depth of the sound. this soundscape lacks the bassy resonance you hear with any gas powered engine. to me it sounds like a desk fan and takes away from an otherwise enjoyable experience in a plane i've always enjoyed flying in the sim.

like i said, i have no experience in a plane with a pt-6 let alone the caravan and i know sounds are subjective but i am disappointed with how thin they sound (along with a couple of other particulars that i've mentioned prior). anyhow, looks like i am part of a very small minority of people who don't love the sounds so i'll just drop it. thanks again for the recommendation.
