Hiding windscreen
-
Hi
I'm building a cockpit based on the King Air, I get a little confused looking in Model.cfg, there are several options, but they are a bit unclear for me.
Is it possible to hide the interior, and still have the outside view working, ideal I would like to hide everything inside the cockpit, but still be able to see the engines out the left and right side. Is this possible?

Hello reiler,
sorry for not answering earlier to your post.Regarding an "invisible" cockpit for us, homecockpit builders, there is no available solution so far.
However a workaround is possible that I use on my own rig: the idea is to move your Point Of View from the standard Pilot View to a new one obstacle free.
I choose to move my POV ahead just outside the windshield and right on the aircraft central axis (since my homecockpit include both pilot and copilot seats) but you may prefer just an ahead move if your cockpit is single seated.
To do so, you need to manually edit your camera.cfg file with your usual notepad since you can't go outside the cockpit within MSFS using standard commands. You'll find the camera.cfg file to the following position:
C:\Users*YourName*\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SimObjects\Airplanes\bksq-aircraft-analogkingair\cameras.CFGAnd, as an example, here is what I changed to get my POV slightly outside the windshield:
original “InitialXyz= 0.334266, -0.179976, 0.951114” changed to “InitialXyz= 0.334266, -0.179976, 1.451114»If you find a better solution I'll gladly accept it since it is only a workaround fix with some drawbacks (no more visible rain drops, cockpit sounds going faint...).
Please let me know...
Hope it will help,

Hello
Thanks a lot for your answer, my problem here is that I have a 3 projector setup using Immersive Display pro, and they are setting a fixed zoomlevel, so I can't change that.
However, in the newest version, they have added a "Head" control where you can move you position in the plane and also move it outside.
I have not tried it much yet, as I am working on other stuff with the sim
But it is strange that MS actually have a setting in the sim where the cockpit should be invisible, but it does not work.

It seems like I have a solution, the newest version of Display Pro have a Head setting, where you ca move your position in the cockpit, but without changing your view outside. This means that I can move myself outside the plane, and then not see the cockpit. The beauty is that it is possible to set up several Head positions, and they can be remote controlled, so (when I find out how to control the switching from Mobiflight) I will be able to switch my position, so I can have the normal view without the cockpit, but also be able to select another Head position and see the full cockpit. The only problem is that right now I can not move completely outside the cockpit (still have a wiper in the top right corner of projector 3), but that is hopefully just a matter of convincing the Display Pro developer to make it possible to zoom a little further
