In the specific case of the Starship, I bought it in 2020 first (because it was released there first). Then, when it was available in 2024, it appears as an ”upgrade” (a specific tab where all your 2020 add-ons that have an equivalent in 2024 appears), where the price should say ”FREE”. Buy it, for free, and fly!
More recently, I bought the Caravan in 2024, and when I later booted up 2020, it was ready to download in the ”content manager”, without any additional step needed.
Sometimes, it can take a little while before the sims ”sync up”, and you might need to relaunch the sim or even wait an extra day, before it’s available in the other sim.
One more thing. In the 2024 marketplace, there is a notification under the buy button, where it says ”2020 version included” or something like that. This appears on all 2024 items where a 2020 version is included without additional cost. The same notification does NOT exist in the 2020 marketplace, regardless if a 2024 version is included.

Yes I bought it in the 2024 marketplace and for me a couple hours later it showed up in the 2020 content manager as an owned product.
