AP heading logic

So this aircraft according to the docs I have say the Proline 4 AMS850 is installed, interestingly enough same family of avionics in the CRJ. In the PL4, the ap is capable of turning in a direction for more than 180 degrees. This gives an interesting effect for HDG departures, you MUST not turn the heading bug to the runway heading because you have no idea if the L or R turn flag is set internally, the procedure is always to sync the heading bug then dial in the heading you want.
I noticed this aircraft (maybe MSFS default) cant do this. this makes holds in heading mode harder as if you accidentally overshoot the heading reversal the plane starts turning the wrong way.
Just a thought.
All the Best,

Very interesting. I can't find any mention of that in the avionics handbook, but I will add it to the list to ask one of the owners about next time we're talking. Unfortunately, this would also be beyond the limitations of the simulator, so it would probably not be economical for me to implement unless I create my own autopilot implementation from scratch, which may happen some day.

@Black-Square Very rarely is it ever mentioned, I dont think ive ever seen it mentioned in a manual. It seems like one of those features that isnt documented. For example of another one, the FD vertical guidance is actually based on the flight path vector vs GS and a PID to dampen out short term excursions. no manual ever mentions this and it was an issue with the HS650 and we had people go into different level D sims to document exactly what the FD does.
