Dirty glass texture in cockpit (MSFS 2024, not Duke specific)
-
I mainly fly in 2020 and have yet to switch to 2024, but I occasionally fire 2024 up and try a few things out. Since SU2 it's performing pretty well now, I might switch over as soon as the Duke v1.2 updates come out (shouldn't be too long now I think).
I've no idea if this has been discussed before, or is a limitation of 2024 itself which is not easily overridden, but I noticed how dirty the surface reflection texture map is on glass in the cockpit. I've seen it some of the 2024 trailers too, including the Starship.
While imperfections are certainly a good thing, it looks quite overdone. What do others think?
For reference, these screenshots were taken in VR and it occurred to me that some graphical features might be set to low/off in this situation, which could amplify the effects.
Can't even read the clock without moving my head... and what is it reflecting off at that angle? It's like there is a window behind me, where my stomach would be...
Cheers,

This is because Asobo changed how glass materials were interpreted between 2020 and 2024. I will obviously have a fix coming with the updates for all my aircraft in the next few weeks, but I'm sorry you have to deal with it in the meantime. I find it atrocious, but surprisingly, almost nobody mentions it when they say how well the Dukes work in 2024... It makes me wonder if I'm the only one who notices all the other little details that go into making an enjoyable aircraft.

Hi Nick,
No, there are many differences we notice too. It just does not feel right to complain about stuff which is not really supported@Dingle You might be one of the only flight simmers who abides by this logic

@Black-Square If it helps your sanity at all, I noticed it, it's just that in light of a lot of the early 2024 issues that made some addons (or even default aircraft) completely broken functionally for a while, it feels like a small issue. I'll definitely be glad to see them cleaned up with the update!

Glad to know it's possible to fix and no rush from my side, thanks for the update, Nick! I searched before posting but didn't find anything in this sub-forum. Like Dingle, I don't like to complain or demand, especially for trivial things. This was just an enquiry
I've barely used 2024 to date, but take it for a spin from time to time. Knowing the Duke's update shouldn't be too far away, I decided to explore it again.
I realised I haven't even tried the majority of the new aircraft in 2024 yet, which is perhaps why I didn't notice this glass issue before. I stick to my 2 or 3 payware aircraft for the limited sim time I have (one or two flights a week), and love to master them vs jumping into different aircraft and pretending I know how to fly them!

@Mustang said in Dirty glass texture in cockpit (MSFS 2024, not Duke specific):

We are in the minority, but I always hope that my aircraft cater to the most dedicated masters of the virtual skies
Thank you for your comments. Sorry that these small issues are there at all! There are still numerous things in 2024 that we have been asking Asobo to address that I think have a detrimental effect on the experience of my aircraft, but clearly not everyone feels this way.
