[repaint help] How do I use ktx2 files to repaint
-
I have looked and looked but I can't find a guide on how to use the stock blank textures to repaint the starship. There was mention of a blender tool that is broken that could import the uv maps, or a script someone made that may or may not work in converting the textures.
Thanks for any help in advance!

This is probably not the best place to ask for general repaint help, but:
If you know how to make a 2020 repaint, you can convert it to 2024 ktx2 using this tool:
https://flightsim.to/file/89849/2020-to-2024-livery-converterThe Blender plugin for importing models is io_scene_gltf2_msfs_fbw.zip:
https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/fly-by-wire-addon-for-blender-3-x.457814/The way the UV mapping is done for Starship, you pretty much require the model, this is not one where you can repaint by editing textures directly.

@Marionettework So i suppose that is an issue, I dont have 2020 so I cant run the 2020 installer which means I cant use that workflow. Any recommendations?
This seems like MS have done pretty much as much as possible to make this a completely closed ecosystem. The amount of overhead is insane and the lack of public tooling is a choice for sure.

@Black-Square is there any change of an exported UV unwrapped model that is importable into blender for 3d surface painting?

What you can do is download an existing 3rd party livery, convert the ktx2 textures to PNG, load them into Blender and edit them. You’ll probably want to grab the paint kit or the N2000S white exterior textures and use those as a base, and you’ll have your new textures in PNG format. Then convert back to ktx2 using the livery converter above and modify all the files and names to make it into a new livery. That converter actually turns PNG into ktx2.
