How is VERT SYNC actually working

Not sure how this is supposed to work. As by the manual:
On the one side, it seems the "SYNC" message, as stated in the description might be missing.
What I did so far:
- assign to a button the SYNC_FLIGHT_DIRECTOR_PITCH
Whats unclear:
- What is a button press on VERT SYNC doing while the AP modes (VS/IAS PROF/IAS/DESCEND/ALTS) are active?
- Will it change the active vertical AP mode to PITCH? Will it also change the LAT mode to ROLL?
- Will it reengage the AP when de-pressed with new vert/lat references?
Every hint appreciated!

I have not had experience with the Pitch Sync doing anything other than when the AP/FD is simply in Pitch mode. I asked in another topic (here) if that is the correct behavior or not. It does not appear to engage pitch mode when pressed, at least in MSFS24. Pitch mode must be selected (by deselecting everything else) in order for it to do anything.
I am leaning towards it being correct because you can change the IAS/Prof and VS settings via knob on the appropriate display, and Descend has canned values, but my other experiences with CWS/Pitch Sync are in the Duke, which only has pitch, and the JF 146, where that's how you set IAS, VS, and Pitch.
But we shall see.

On my side, in all AP modes (except ALTS), it disables the active vert AP mode and enables PITCH. So this seems different to your experience.
The question is: If AP is enabled, and vert mode in PITCH mode, what can it do?
I assume TRIM UP/TRIM DOWN should be possible in this mode at least (AP ON).But there must be more to it..

I'd have to try it again, I didn't think it enabled pitch mode and disabled everything else
Are you using MSFS 20 or 24? I am in 24, and Nick has said elsewhere the default AP logic has somehow gotten worse between them.
And no, Pitch mode just holds the pitch. I believe there are buttons on the pedestal to adjust the pitch up/down in addition to the CWS/Pitch Sync button.
Why you would use Pitch over IAS/Prof, VS, or literally anything else IDK.

Many aircraft at those times were regularly be flown in PITCH mode, especially in desc/appr scenarios, I`ll let the AI describe it
... In an autopilot system, "Vert Sync" (or Vertical Synchronization) mode synchronizes the autopilot's vertical command bars with the current indicated airspeed (IAS) and vertical speed (VS). It essentially aligns the autopilot's climb/descent commands with the aircraft's current vertical parameters. This synchronization allows for a smoother transition when switching between different autopilot vertical modes or when taking over manual control.

Sorry to keep this one short, but the limited pitch sync functionality is due to an oversight from Asobo. There is no variable for me to detect whether the user is holding the pitch sync button, so it's impossible for me to create more complex modes of operator, or to show an annunciator. I have workarounds for elsewhere when this is the case (there is no go-around variable either...), but I have yet to come up with anything that could detect pitch sync.

Does this apply when you use the Pilot_CWS Lvar instead of the MSFS Kvar?
And are you saying that pitch mode should do more than just pitch?

Fully understood your point and the also restriction.
I am using SPAD Next on my side where you can have a button hold mode programmed. I fail when trying to understand what th VERT SYNC would trigger, especially in a scenario where the AP would be on and you push/hold/release it:-
button (VERT SYNC) pressed
(Disables AP? FD Mode goes into PITCH/ROLL? -
button hold
(Keeps status as with button pressed) -
button release
(Is SYNCING vertical? (also maybe horizontal?)
(Is turning AP back on? If yes, which modes? PITCH or VS would make sense in VERTICAL mode, ROLL would only make sense in HOR mode?)
Could not really find anything in the original manual except what I shared on top
