Rate of turn indicator?
-
Hi James,
Sorry, no that's the turn coordinator. The rate of turn indicator is used to to make standard rate (2min 360deg) turns.
On the classic 6 pack setup it would be the small airplane above the turn coordinator.
On some Garmin displays it's depicted as a magenta arrow extending from the lubber line around the circumference of the HSI in the direction of turn.

Just searched the manuals. No mention of "rate of turn", or "turn rate."

The rule of thumb I'm aware of is 10% of
IASTAS plus 7 for the bank angle for a rate 1 turn. After 25 degrees, just hold at 25 degrees.EDIT: my reference simply said speed, but in the FS Academy course you only fly slower GA where they're about equal anyway

I thought if you just set 25 degrees of bank or whatever and held it you got a standard 2 min turn? Although it reduces with speed? So maybe a bit pointless on the Starship as it's a lot faster than say a 152/172 so it would vary wildy?
Cheers
James@hughesj2 standard rate one turn is not based on a specific bank angle, as bank angle ≠turn rate. As jmarkows said, a good rule of thumb is (TAS/10)+7. So for a hold at say 210KTAS, angle of bank should be 28 degrees. If you're flying something very slow (say a 172 flying a hold at 100KTAS) the bank angle needed will be significantly less (17 degrees) as you say.
