Watched several of preview flights - and there is a comment on how an engine start behave with covers on.
In real life I did it on F-5 in air force. Intention was just a short engine run up on left engine only. Did a half walk around left side and left started normally. Then another mech showed up signaling he wanted to do a leak check of components on right engine. 2 rotating fingers up for engine 2 start.
The rpm increase was extremely quick - reaching a higher rpm than normal. Later I figured out this is caused by no air flow to work with. Just as you choke a vacuum cleaner, you hear increase in rpm as there is no air in the compressor. As you guess - the hot start was instant. Lucky I cut the fuel in a split second. As a sergeant commented - you did nothing wrong -. The cover warning flag reads - Remove before flight...- ...
    .........
Another flashback in this incredible design - is from B767 same time period with the complex CRT cooling systems. And the 3.5 disc loading new nav data once a month. The screeching noise waiting for syntax error message. Loading into nav system 1 first - then cross load to nav 2. Mixing up send - receive on FMC maintenance page- and nav system was locked in system failure that even Boeing had no procedure that worked . It was just trial and error with c/bs pulls in sequence - disconnect main battery connector to make aircraft completely dead. Then if lucky - it did work without not really know why.
    ....
I could bet a small fortune that it will never came an aircraft to replace BS Dukes in 2020. Now I do not bother to start flight sim again until June 19.

Thanks for the stories! That makes perfect sense that the gas generator RPM would actually be higher. Just like a vacuum cleaner, as you point out. Of course, this was nothing that I was willing to try with a real aircraft! I'll see if I can implement this for all my turbine aircraft in a future update. It would have to be done in a little different way than I currently am, which is why I'm not implementing the change immediately.

I'm so glad you're looking forward to Starship. While I make no claims that you will find my aircraft perfect in every way, even I have been shocked by finding Starship to be the most enjoyable flying experience I've ever had. What a remarkable machine. I think it particularly lends credence to the idea that sometimes the earliest designers of technology had to think things through and work through adversity to create the best solutions that have since been lost to time.

Well - I say it just insane to simulate something that even real pro multi million dollar simulators does bother to create, or even come to their mind. Absolutely no need to give priority to make it as realistic as possible, without ruin a real engine.
Thank you for Omega nav system. I really missed it in flight sim. I hoped it was in Vulcan, but no cigar. I attended a short intro course back then when beauties used hot pants. Fun to finally learn how it works.

        • 48 hours to go. I know the price will be right. The manual is worth it alone, and you get the Starship for free.
