Engine Starts as Soon as Crash Bar is Raised

    I'm having a super weird issue with the TBM 850 in MSFS 2020. From cold and dark, as soon as I raise the crash bar the engine starts and cannot be stopped. Battery is off, Starter is off, ignition is off, mixture is at cutoff and the fuel selector is pulled out (off). Engine is still running. The starter annunciator is flashing. I've double checked there are no failures, I've repaired the engine. I don't see any fuses popped. It will not really spool up but seems to just be running at low torque low NG. If I lower the crash bar, the engine stops. I've tried restarting the sim with no luck. I don't know what to do . Help! Thank you :)

    Yes, that is phenomenally weird! Looking at the code, the only way for the starter annunciator to illuminate is if the starter is actually engaged. This leads me to believe that you might have a hardware binding conflict. This could cause the starter to engage without the switch moving in the cockpit. I assume you're not having problems with any other aircraft, which makes this all the more strange.

    Hey, you were totally (well mostly) right, thank you! No conflict per-say, but my yoke has a turnkey type mags/starter switch and for some reason it must have been turned to the starter. This seems to engage the starter in the TBM but it does not control the switch in the aircraft. What is a bit of an odd behavior, is that it's possible to move the starter switch in the plane to the ON or OFF position while my hardware switch is in the 'start' position, and doing so has no effect on whether the starter is on or off. It's a continuous (always on) type of switch, so in most planes it would not be possible to move the mags switch to a position other than what the hardware switch is set to (e.g. if it is set to 'start' the key will instantly jump back to start if you try to move it).

    What should have clued me in, is that I decided to do the planned flight in the Piston Duke instead since I couldn't figure out the TBM issue, and in the Duke the mags were stuck in the far right position (which I instantly realized what the issue was and switched to the new controller profile I'd set up for the Duke). Side note of praise: I just picked up the 3 Dukes this week and did my first actual flight last night from CYEG to CYYC in the Piston Duke, absolutely brilliant airplane, I'm super impressed.

    Thank you for the praise. I hope you thoroughly enjoy them! I'm glad you solved your problem easily. It's a fine balance for me as to which cockpit interactions will work with the hardware inputs. Too few and we run into problems like this, but the advanced cockpit builders want everything to be an L:Var. If I use the system of abstraction that Asobo designed to do this, however, you run into bizarre corner cases with very unexpected results.
