[MSFS2024] unrealistic external lights
-
Hi @Black-Square , just pointing out to you attention a phenomenon in MSFS2024 with the TBM volumetric lights. Looks like the effect is lighting up the screen space rather than the surrounding world in a "realistically enough" effect. It's most prominent in certain conditions where it can light up far clouds in a very unrealistic way.
I've uploaded a video here, horrifying video quality sorry about that... gamebar capture + youtube compressions. The storbe lights causes the clouds to flicker...given the video quality, at least it gives somewhat clue of what it looks like.
https://youtu.be/SCQMsZUAuJ0Thanks for the amazing TBM! we can't fly without it :)

Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, from your video, I don't see anything that looks substantially different from MSFS 2024. I have some special code that relates to the strobe lights that might be the source of an issue, if there is one, but that code does not affect the landing lights. I'll take a look myself, and let you know what I think.

Many thanks for following up on this. I'll also try to recreate this with a better capture. One note, I've compared the same scenarios to Asobo's TBM and their strobe light don't cause this effect, at least on the clouds. Of course, being much less volumetric and bright....
I have tried only a few of the default aircrafts, but never saw light bounces off from the clouds like this before. Will surely update my findings.
Btw, quick question regarding MSFS2024 adaptation. Seems that sending flightplan from the EFB to the GNS530 is only supported with the V2 of the avionics which developers must use, as Matt from WT explained.
Is this planned or could be supported for the next update? -
Hi @Black-Square just a quick update on this topic... complacency can hits pilots and developer pilots too :) was surprised to fall for this one.
I've just recently upgraded my monitor to an HDR capable one... turned the HDR on also in MSFS2024 and didn't bothered much with it. Well, seems that the problem is very prominent with HDR but nearly impossible to see without it. Didn't gave it enough testing since then but just wanted update as it will surely won't be visible as much as I saw it directly on the display, and pretty sure that the video capture loses the HDR colors. Will try to capture the display just for the sake of demonstration.... thanks
