No FD guidance in VLOC when using TDS GTN

I noticed that when switching fom GPS to VLOC, NAV mode is no longer selectable for the AP/ FD. For example flying with GPS to the IAF, then switching to VLOC to fly a radial for a NPA, the NAV mode will not arm, even though the signal is valid (showing on the HSI), and both in the GTN750 as well as the mode selector button (panel upper left corner) announce VLOC.
Interestingly, the VOR2 still shows "GPS".ILS and APR mode are working.
Using the TDS GTN750/650 combo.
