ILS with 750gtnxi

Can any one point me as to where I am going wrong
I have the ils in nav1 and picked up I change from gps to vloc
If I have nav selected on the ap it will intercept the ils
If I press approach it activates but also switches from nav to heading mode
And dose not intercept the ils -
I found the same thing, but I'm using the PMS50. Although in my case I can't even get it to intercept the localiser! I manually switched to VLOC, but no GS so I though I'll hit approach and off I went to the right! Haha
For me, it's probably pilot error as I'm used to the TBM doing everything for me
-
I watched a YouTube video when they did the ils pressing the approach button both heading and nav buttons went out
For me the nav button goes out but the heading button lights up
Not sure if that is because I am trying to intersept the ils at to steep an angle to the course trying it around 20 degrees
Or if my sim was having a problem -
I too found ILS approaches to not be working when I first flew this aircraft, with the TDS unit. I realized after a couple of attempts, that it's either pilot error or a finicky AP. Make sure your GTN is in VLOC mode prior to the FAF and make sure you switch the cockpit from GPS to NAV mode on the left of the AP annunciators. It will not change just with the GTN changing mode. Make sure you press APPR before the capture height and FAF as well. Also, make sure the RNAV is not selected, as that's just for the KNS-81 RNAV unit.
-
Or, you can simply press APP a hundred miles away and let the GTNxi sequence your arrival and approach by itself. It will nearly always switch over to VLOC automatically when it gets to FAF and sees the glideslope. Just make sure that you are at the altitude gate required for IAF and FAF. If ILS it is just as mesmerising to watch as the Rnav approach.

Slightly off topic, but a very useful aid in the 750xi is the VSR or vertical speed required display which you can place on the main 750 screen, ( I use top right) and use this to display descent required to be at the right height gate for anything you need though IAF and FAF would be great examples.

Does on mine. Haven't had to do a manual switch in maybe nine months. I also use a Logitech radio panel and have on occasion had to make that the live rather than standby frequency. I just carry on with my knitting while the TDS does its stuff. I am away from the PC right now, but if there is anything that I can help with, then please ask amd I will do what I can to help narrow down what is happening.

Aah! Not the Duke for that length of time but I don't fly anything other than Blacksquare and possibly never will :-) I do have a lot of experience with the GTNxi though, several years worth!
With regard to the Duke, I have around a dozen landings since Saturday and the first piston ones this afternoon with no issues of note to report. Love them already.
I wonder how far back you might be engaging APP mode? Try engaging before the arrival procedure starts and see if that makes any difference.

That's not really an option though, I was flying into EKCH on vatsim tonight and you always get vectors. It has to work on a short-ish intercept heading.

I’ve just found out that if you press the APPROACH button it will actually fly the app but it doesn’t light up the mode on the autopilot annunciator maybe @Black-Square can confirm this
-
@ramonesg I'm leaving my desk at the moment, but the short answer is: That should not happen, and is indicative of some hot-swapping GPS tomfoolery.
-
@Black-Square I’ve been using the TDS since I bought the airplane I’ll try with the PMS

Sorry I made just a short post earlier. I'm more than happy to help you troubleshoot this. The tech support guys are also much more practiced at identifying and solving GPS/AP issues than I am, actually. We haven't met one that couldn't be solved yet. Are you familiar with the WT GNS SU14 bug? Even though you're using other GPS software, it can still affect you, which is why I was originally hoping to delay the release of the Dukes past SU15.

I watched my video of a ils landing I did I use the pms 750 and for the approach I had selected approach in the auto pilot and then I had to select vloc 1 in the 750 that was done when I was on final . I hit gs in the auto pilot that sent the autopilot into heading mode I then hit approach only that then set the hsi to vloc then I had no problem capturing the ils but also I’m using sim 15 beta.
-
@Black-Square no worries and for the delay I couldn’t wait any longer so thanks for the release, this is just some minor issue and doesn’t bothers me at all

Any update on diagnosing this APPR engage issue for ILS? Using the TDS it rarely works, so I thought I give the KLN90b a go, good retro fun with that one. First time I added and switched to it, the ILS at the end worked fine. Second flight (not the same sim session), it had the KLN90b still configured, flew just fine on GPS, but the ILS approach mode wouldn't engage again. And flying into Edinburgh I was off the NAV mode and on HDG vectors for quite a bit before I was given a nice gentle intercept of like 25 degrees and below the GS. APPR light would illuminate but the plane never turned to intercept the localizer, went right through it. Got it back on track using HDG, same with glideslope - never engages. The needles tracked just fine as I flew the approach manually, which is a nice challenge but with this complex aircraft where you have to follow the checklist to not forget something it makes it quite hard to fly the raw ILS accurately while looking around the cockpit flipping switches.

Also after completing the flight I wanted to do another leg with an RNAV approach but using the TDS again ... and that just outright crashed the sim when clicking apply on the tablet. And not for the first time, something about switching from the KLN90 to the TDS is causing a crash. Don't think it was a problem at the beginning of a flight.
