Aggressive VOR AP capture behaviour.
-
Hello,
The NAV capture logic seems off somewhat, I've used Heading mode to manually track the the VOR, however putting it in NAV mode will cause quite large course changes and a large S turn until returns to track again, when in reality, small changes would suffice here. Is this correct behaviour?
I'm using the latest TBM 850 and the latest PMS GTN750 with the correct additional plugin. I've got these two Working Title 530 plugins in the MS Store. Should I have both? I think the AP logic is derived from one of those.
I've attached a video of the behaviour, apologies as it's a phone video.

Thanks for the video. That always makes providing good answers so much easier. If you're not using the GNS as your primary source of navigation, then it should have no effect on the autopilot. Either the PMS50 GTN is controlling the autopilot, or it is defaulting to the native implementation in your case.
What I think you're seeing here is that the autopilot is making an appropriately aggressive turn to align you with the actual VOR course, rather than what you're seeing on the HSI, which is my degraded signal VOR. If you look in the video, you can see that the CDI is wondering a little when you activate the autopilot. At 75 nm away, the signal is a little weak. The autopilot, on the other hand, steers to the correct VOR course, which is to the left of the aircraft in this scenario.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, especially on a Sunday.
This makes more sense, especially with increased range away from the VOR.
Just to quickly follow up, do I need both GNS530 packages as pictured above, my install of MSFS is up to date, SU15, but was first installed long before the working title avionics updates.

No problem. Every day is a work day for me when it comes to answering my customers.
I just checked the currently public version of the TBM, and you should not need either GNS package from the marketplace. Everything you need should be included in the base simulator, and I tell tech support to recommend the minimum possible installation of addons and mods to remove opportunity for conflict.

Thank you for the response, I'll consider if it's needed by any other add-on and potentially remove it.
Looking forward to the Duke, the TBM has quickly become one of my favourite things to fly in the sim. Great work :)
