I've never seen an ADF with a deviation bar. Best I can tell it shows degrees of difference between your selected bearing and the actual NDBs bearing, all in reference to your heading. Pretty clever bit of equipment there...almost makes me want to go shoot an NDB approach.

Yes, it's interesting, I was also surprised, but apparently that's how the real instrument works. Here in the handbook on page 100 of the PDF it even says what angles the needle deflection represents.
