King Air reverse trust

    I am much enjoying the King Air. Yet I face an issue that I am not sure it is from my set up.

    On landing, using the reverse thrust, brings the King Air to a complete stop within a few feet...it is way too strong I believe (I am not a RL pilot).

    Is there a possibility to "soften" the reverse thrust to a more realistic effect?

      Hi,
      I'm not a pilot and I had the same feeling. So I checked on several youtube video. Althought pilots don't stop the plane on the runway, we can evaluate approximatively the distance between the touchdown and taxiing speed.

      In this one landing without reverse, there is approx 590m between touchdown and the first exit.

      In this one with reverse it seems to be 410m between touchdown and the stopped reverse.

      So it doesn't seems very different than the simulation. Even with a full flaps landing configuration.

      Beside this some observations :

      • it seems that pilots don't apply reverse thrust often, I do it only in very short runway
      • they probably wouldn't use the break with the 100% force applied like we do in the simulation, I apply only 50% - 75% max
      • there is a hudge difference when you fly with a full cargo loaded plane or the defaut 50% simulation
      • I also notice that pilot use "low idle" condition lever, even for take off, which produce less thrust force. Also if you use the engine ant-ice protection (which is an inertial separator filter), you will have less thrust. Same for the bleed valve, set to "open" (instead of instrument only) will reduce the thrust.

          @elglon Your statement that low idle provides less thrust is only true for the idle setting. At take-off it does not make any difference. Only when pulling the levers back to idle the thrust will be different.
