F14 autopilot heading stuck at 0 degree
-
@dc1973 Tried both GPS and NAV, no difference. I can manually turn the plane to the heading I want, and hit HDG button, then activate AP for the plane to follow the heading I want, but I cannot turn the HDG knob while in the heading mode, it just jump back to what it is set to previously.

@macbrush You should be able to see the heading cursor both in MFD (an outer triangle on the circular compass) and a rhombus in the HSI from the HUD and PFD. You also have to verify that you are in heading mode and not in Ground track mode (AWL button lets you switch between HDG and TRK).

@macbrush said in F14 autopilot heading stuck at 0 degree:
If it's already in heading mode, if I turned the wheel, the indicator just keep jumping back to 0. If I disengaged the AP, then turn the heading wheel, I could select heading, but as soon as I turned AP back on, heading jump back to 0 degree. Any help would be very much appreciated.
This happened to me, too.
I noticed about 33 minutes into this stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1124313029

@michelh See my reply above. If the issue persists, let me know and I'll check with the HTML coder. It's also worth checking out this thread in the Microsoft forums where there is more detail on the autopilot and navigation system that has not yet made it into the manual ( it's going to be updated soon ). Info is near the bottom of the thread, with images.

I have the same issue as others here.
When trying to change HDG using the button on the center display, or the twist-wheel on the right hand autopilot panel, the HDG bug keeps bouncing back to center again (kind of like when you press the HDG button to fix it to your current heading).
I also tried pressing the AWL/PCD button below the HUD power switch and looking at the HUD it flips to [TRK] for a brief moment then resets back to [HDG].
I've tried with NAV/GPS switch in both NAV and GPS mode, and same issue for both (HDG bug bouncing back).
Either something is off or I'm using the wrong combination of switches.
Would be appreciated to have a short procedure on exactly what switches should be in what position for HDG mode to work, as well as how to swap between HDG and TRK.
E.g:
AWL/PCD knob - which position for HDG and which for TRK?
NAV/GPS switch - which position for HDG and which for TRK?
ILS/ACL - do these need to be in any specific position?
ND - which screen mode should this be in? (ILS, VOR, GPS) or does it not matter? Are there other buttons that affect this? VEC and MAN knobs below "Avionics" power switch?
Just trying to eliminate user-error first of all. Once I know exactly what position each button needs to be in then I at least know to expect it to work. And if it doesn't work then there must be another issue at play.

@dc1973 Awesome! It's a minor thing and really just for when I do extended flights. Most of the time I'm just stick flying and having fun :)
I did notice one other thing that I figure I might as well mention. During night flying when turning on the "Red Flood" it seems to set all backlighting to maximum saturation and the dial to change illumination doesn't seem to dim it down. I dunno if that is how it was in the F-14 or not. The red can be quite overwhelming though on a night flight.

@dc1973 I must add some further findings to this.
I managed to get the HDG bug to work.
NAV/GPS = NAV
MODE-NAV/TID/ECM = NAV
AWL/PCD = Pressed to change center and HUD display to HDG (not TRK).
AP master switch = ONIn this config I am able to use the wheel to change the HDG bug.
However... this is when the MODE switches are all turned OFF. By Mode switches in this context I am referring to the TO/CRUISE/AA/AG/LDG switches.
If I select the CRUISE mode (which I had activated on previous longer flights) then the HDG bug resets to 0 degrees and becomes inoperable by the HDG bug wheel).
So in short it seems the culprit here is the MODE=CRUISE setting.
Whether this is intended behavior or not is not for me to say, but the solution is at least to leave the MODE switches all turned OFF.
A little further testing and it seems HDG bug operates normally in TO, AA and AG modes, as in it does not reset or become inoperable where you can't move it. However in the CRUISE and the LDG modes the HDG bug becomes inoperable. In CRUISE mode it seems to reset to 0 degrees, while in LDG mode it automatically switches to TRK mode and you can't move the bug anymore. ALso using AWL/PCD switch to change mode from HDG to TRK does not work (just instant switches back to TRK and does not let you move HDG bug).
Hope this will help you guys out!
