How to turn on the GNS 430/530
-
I have tried everything but I do not get GNS 430/530 to start. I have removed the mod for GNS 530 that I had in community folder but it still does not work. Should it start automatically when the battery turns on?

@Seat7A I think mine comes on with the Battery, but there are so many things that could be influencing this. 1) Circuit breakers for one, make sure they are all in, they can pop out at any time. 2) Your hardware, are you using "physical" switches? Maybe they aren't working as they should. 3) Are you using the "Modern" flight model not Legacy?
I'm using the latest release of the GNS530 mod, and that works okay I believe. I've not noticed a problem with it. You could try selecting the GPS100, that has an on/off switch on it. Turn it on if you can, then switch to the GNS' maybe?
Failing that, restart the sim I guess.

From cold&dark, simply BAT+ALT ON lets the GNS boot and screens turn on.
With Sim Update 3 there is a known issue introduced (even mentioned in the release notes) that sometimes glass cockpits/displays stay dark. The suggested workaround is to restart the flight (press ESC and choose RESTART wich is far quicker than returning to the main menu). -
Thanks for advise, I think I got it working now

I have done all the above and the GPS still does not go on.

Hi, I had the same problem and found for me the problem was that the GNS530 mod appears to not work if it is not in the default Community folder and handled by MSFS Addons Linker. It is the first addon (out of hundreds) that has not worked using this method. For me the bezels were shown but the screens were blank, as were all the other gauges. Taking this mod out, fixed the problem

Just updated the PA28 to v 2.0 and I can't turn on the GNS530 (even with the volume/pwr button). I know this updated version comes with the possibility of switching on/off, but can't find how. I have the GNS 530 mod.

If you have the mod installed, please load the Arrow III, confirm that the GNS 530 is selected on the EFB, end the flight and then start a new one. You should then have the ability to switch the GNS on/off after the battery master is switched on.

It worked, thanks for the very quick reply! Great product!

May I ask where this on/off switch exactly is? I haven't noticed it yet and other people also report that the GNS530 stays off whenever switching to it via EFB.

@Martyn said in How to turn on the GNS 430/530:
We're using the default GNS code so the 430/530 power is controlled by the small 'C' knob.
Just tried that, it only works if you start the flight with GNS530 already selected. Once you switch it to another GNS and back to 530, it stays black no matter what you do.
The buttons seem to work but the screen remains black. GNS430 works fine even if you switch around.
Doesn't seem to be related to the mod either. -
Same problem here, switching to GNS530 causes it to stop displaying (if you try the pop out window with right ALT, it displays the 430, might help catching the bug)
Starting with GNS530 selected works fine, both modded and default versions. -

This was always the case depending on where you click to pop out, you either get the 430 or 530 :)

@Martyn I just got v0.3.0 installed and experienced the GNS530 black screen issue again. I will provide further details later, need more testing to identify the proper scenario that raises this issue but keep it on your radar for this issue is not done yet.
