How do you use the mixture?

I am in msfs2020 in the non-TC version and cruising at 3000 ft. Moving the mixture from full rich to lean has no effect until the engine suddenly cuts out. The EGT gauge, EDM 800 and Fuel flow do not change at all.
Shouldn't the fuel flow be changing? at least a little?
I move the mixture with my mouse and/or with the saitek yoke. The lever is moving.
Can someone point me at the proper documentation or a video if I am not understanding how this works?

Mike@deskpilot65 I seem to recall seeing this with one of my other aircraft at some point, and it was the result of a double hardware binding. Try removing hardware until you can see fuel flow changes while using just the mouse. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with along the way.

I removed all devices except keyboard and mouse and it is the same. Also, the fuel flow reacts greatly when the prop lever is moved - exactly as I would have expected with the mixture lever. The prop lever does correctly control the prop speed as well. I am moving everything with the mouse.

Sounds like some auto mixture or similar in realism settings?
