I'm in the manual and the picture of the ignition shown is from the F70 (AUTO, NORM, CONT, RE LIGHT), however the description appears to only apply to the F100. What is the function of the AUTO in the F70?

I attempted to start the engines with ignition in AUTO, and got a very loud GPU sound (and very low N2 spoolup).

I just finished a flight with the ignitors in AUTO with no problems. Low N2 spooling sounds more like an APU bleed issue. The GPU (Ground Power Unit) would have nothing to do with the starting of engines and would in fact be disconnected at the time of engine start. Did you have the APU running?

Yes- by this time during boarding the GPU had already been dismissed, but the sound was something like a GPU with extra load/stress on it- puzzled me since it wasn't even attached to the aircraft. It was in the F70 that this happened, I have not tried in the F100. Once I did nothing else but switch to NORM, the N2 spooled up just fine. I believe the APU bleed pressure was unchanged.

The Fokker 100 is the same; it has an auto function, but the manual doesn't match. The manual mentions CONT 1, Normal, CONT 2, and RELIGHT, but when the ignition is activated, nothing appears on the MFDU indicating that they are activated, as the manual explains. I don't know if I'm misunderstanding, but if it's a bug, I hope these small details will be corrected in the future. I'm happy with the product, but coming from Justflight, I would expect a slightly more detailed product, as they have been in the past.

I watched a video that followed a British Midland F100 in flight and the flight crew explained what all the systems did and from my memory (which could be off, it's been a few days) it seems that between the two sets of ignition labels they do roughly the same thing, as the pilot explained that "Auto" was for the "number 1 igniters" and was used for take off and landing typically, and "Continuous" was the "number 2 igniters", and "Relight" activated both sets of igniters.
I don't remember if "Norm" was discussed but I believe you are supposed to start engines in this mode unless I'm wrong.
