Related to the original question, should the switch should stay in position (auto/manual or off) instead of always coming back to off?

That's the correct behavior. I had one my my beta testers ask about this, so I have the quote from the POH handy:
"A three-position, spring loaded switch, with a center OFF position[...] When the switch is in the auto position, the deice boots inflate for a period of approximately 12 seconds[...] The switch must be tripped for each complete cycle."

I see. So you flick it once to auto and it does a 12s cycle or you hold it down for a manual inflate.
It's a little annoying with the mouse but I sort of imagine it's ok IRL esp if we're not supposed to leave it on.

@EmergencyButter That's all correct. Just so I understand, what's annoying about the mouse? It should work the same as all my other momentary switches.

@Black-Square I understand that to use the manual setting I'm supposed to hold down the switch for how many seconds I desire. I find long presses annoying with the mouse.
However I'm not even sure why I'd use the manual setting at all so I'm not sure if I really mind beyond exploring the anti ice system.

@EmergencyButRegarding the test for the AUTO position, there is no need to worry because even with an unstable press, in accordance with the checklist, the BOOT annunciator lights up.
However, unstable pressure on the MANUAL position does not allow the BOOT annunciator to light up. To do this, it is necessary to hold the switch in the MANUAL position to see it appear. This can only be done using the mouse.
This is obviously not the case for other unstable buttons such as the TEST & STANDBY pressurization buttons, for which we can assign a variable to keep them pressed down. -
And to add: The reason it's only one cycle in Auto is that you have to wait until enough ice has accumulated. If it would constantly inflate and deflate, there is a risk that you could just hollow out the ice buildup, with the boot just operating under it. Therefore you would be left with no wing deice.
A true Auto setting in the sense of set and (more or less) forget is only possible on aircraft with thermal anti-ice or alcohol anti-icing system like the Diamonds have for example.
Note the difference.. those systems are switched on before entering icing conditions (therefore anti-ice), vs. Boots, which shed ice that already has accumulated (de-ice).
