Some Bonanza Feedback/Ideas
-
Copied from a ticket as it occurred to me that maybe posting here would be better:
Greetings! I am thoroughly enjoying this product, but as a real-world pilot I have a little (respectful) feedback on a handful of things, which some may be just limitations or intentionally done:
- When pulling the prop lever back while on the ground at idle or 1000RPM, there should be no effect and no prop change sound... essentially if the engine RPM is already below the lowest governor RPM (1200 maybe?), then nothing will happen when you pull the prop back.
- The turbocharger noise is very pronounced and should not be. I can think of one or two times where I maybe thought I faintly heard the turbo when flying a turbo-normalized 182 at cruise, but the sound is very pronounced in the A36TC. I understand dramatic effect if that is the case LOL
- EGT peak range is VERY wide- when I get close to peak I have sometimes seen around 1GPH difference only making a small difference in EGT. It should be much more sensitive, but I can't speak for the Bonanza specifically. I know the EGT changes very rapidly as well with mixture changes when further from peak, but maybe that is to make it easier for the sim pilots

- Since the last update, I can hear what seems to be the nose gear touchdown sound while taxiing occasionally, like the nose gear is skipping when it really isn't. I did not hear this before the last update.
- There are some persistent settings, but it would be nice to have the panel lights and headphone noise cancelling level persistent too. I am changing it every time manually. More of a convenience thing!
- This may be a sim-ism that can't be helped, but it is a somewhat common practice to do a quick mag-off check before shutting down like normal with the mixture to make sure you don't have broken P-leads and a mag that is not grounding and staying hot. I tried this one day and the engine just shut right down. Would be something really cool to see possible, especially with wear and failures modeled.
- The KFC150 autopilot seems to be purely controlling pitch with pitch trim (very quickly!), versus controlling pitch with the pitch servo/yoke and adjusting control force for itself with pitch trim. This results in very abrupt VS change commands and level-offs also. Again, maybe a sim-ism and I also wasn't sure if the KFC150 was a modified version specific to this addon.
Again, I am having a blast with this airplane and I am happy to see some great GA airplanes developed for MSFS. This is truly one of the best, and I haven't even explored the turboprop version or much of the Barons yet! Well done!

@nrcrate Thank you for your comments, and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the aircraft It's always nice to hear from another fellow pilot. I hope you don't mind if I reply to your feedback in list form. My fingers are getting tired from two weeks of answering every message I can get to

-
I'll look into this, because you're obviously right. I think what you're hearing is the effect we added to better simulate the sound of exercising the propeller during runup.
-
Yes, this was an intentional decision with the turbochargers. I like my aircraft to be "hyper-real" and sometimes that means turning things up to 11 to demonstrate the technical depth of the aircraft, and make for an exciting simulator experience.
-
This would be something currently under the purview of the MSFS engine simulation, but I am slowly eliminating everything that is not completely under my control with each successive release.
-
Nothing changed regarding the gear sounds from v1.0 to v1.1, but this reminds me of something I had my sound designer fix in the Dukes after release, so perhaps this made its way from an old file into the Baron and Bonanza.

I have discussed the problems with Asobo's cloud state saving many, many times on this forum. The issue is that I cannot save anything locally while using HTML/JS instead of WASM. WASM might be more powerful, but that power comes with greater instability, and a much greater chance of CTD. Right now, it seems that MSFS 2024 has made the state saving situation much less consistent on some computers. I would love to implement greater persistence features, but we have been trying to get Asobo to fix the problems before making that investment.
-
The mag check should work, as I even have specific code to cause a backfire if you wait too long before turning the magnetos back on. In my Analog Baron Technical Overview video, I demonstrate what a P-lead failure looks like, but I was hoping I would also show the successful test. You're welcome to send me a video if you think this is still not working.
-
You're correct, this is a sim limitation. I have a flag in the autopilot to set whether pitch changes are made by controlling the trim, or the yoke, but I cannot select both at once like the KFC-150, as opposed to the KFC-100.
Thank you again so much, and I hope you enjoy the other aircraft in the bundle just as much as the Bonanza!

@Black-Square Thank you for the detailed reply. Yes- thoroughly enjoying so far! I will re-try the mag check again but I did do it fairly rapidly and it is great to hear you even modeled possible backfire if left off too long as I almost mentioned that and figured you probably would already think of it. It would be worth noting that I am in MSFS 2020, not 2024. Hence, the cloud streaming thing is not really applicable, as I understand it. Just for your use with troubleshooting. I did think maybe the tire skip noise may be a result of the ground pitch attitude update? I have a friend with the Bonanza as well and he reported hearing it also. Take care! -Nick
