Finally it's the weekend, I can finally take my time enjoying this gorgeous master piece! As I was doing my first proper walk around, I noticed I haven't been able to do these following actions, I was wondering if that is by design or I've missed something:

    • Can't open fuel tank cap from the wings to check fuel level
    • Can't find/check oil level at the engine/dipstick
    • Strobe/nav lights are far too dim (could be a sim issue in general)
    • Can't perform fuel drain
    • Can't check pitot heat by "touch" (that it's working when switched on)
    • Can't check stall switch/warning
    • Trim tab doesn't move when I move the elevator

@brenchen According to the manual none of those features are featured in this aircraft. To put simply, i dont think a walkaround makes much sense in this aircraft, as i dont believe damage to control surfaces due to overspeed or anything else for that matter is simulated visually.

And with all due respect, how do you expect to test pitot heat by touch in a simulator? Im not aware of any other aircraft which have this feature.

@Leon Thank you, I just wanted to confirm that, and with that understanding, I agree there's not much point doing walkarounds for this Aircraft 🙂 . Regarding pitot heating, A2A has that feature. When you click and hold, it'll light up red. There are heat blur you can see radiating off it as well I think.

@brenchen Oh wow, didnt know that A2A had that feature. Must be new on the aerostar in 2024. I only had the commanche in 2020. Maybe one day Nick will implement some of these features.

@Leon worth checking in the Comanche, I'm pretty sure it has it as well. Make sure master is on and pitot heat is on when you check.

I miss those things on the Blacksquare addons as well, but IMO Blacksquare has left A2A behind in the sum of all features.
However adding these items would be the cherry on the cake.

Another observation made during the walkaround is the movable control surfaces kinda stay in the position you leave them instead of falling back into the neutral position. Now ive never flown the bonanza in real life but i doubt it actually stays up or down like memory foam. This also seems to be the case for the Rudder and elevators. Purely cosmetic but would be nice if it could be corrected.

@Leon I'm not surprised if they stay in place. Most of the GAs I fly IRL stays in place when you move them with the exception of Cirruses where they'll snap back. But Cirrus controls are spring loaded.

@MatzeH84 this is my first Blacksquare product. Can you elaborate on which aspects Blacksquare leaves A2A behind please? I mean GA planes are meant to be "simple", there's only so much "realism" you can simulate for a GA plane.

@brenchen ah ok, that's good to hear. The planes I used to fly, the control surfaces tend to just kinda fall back into place or maybe just stay a little offset after gravity drops it back down most of the way. But then again I'd love to fly the bonanza in real life one day. Until then all I can do is speculate about the realism. But of course I trust Nick has done an incredible job simulating the bonanza.

@Leon we have one I can fly but the T&Cs for hiring is too expensive, they require at least a full day hire with 3 hr on the clock as a minimum.

The Arrow II I mostly hire these days just says where I put it.

@Leon Actually its a feature of the Comanche, in 2020/24, but NOT the Aerostar (in 2024 at least)

@Leon The ailerons should stay in place where you left em, elevator should actually always return to full forward and never be neutral on ground cause of weight of the control surface... seems no one rlly cares to model that. I think my only gripe with black square is the lack of modelling rough running engine with too lean mixture. Would be nice to be lazy and lean by engine rpm like I do in real life in the sim... been finding leaning for fuel flow works well enough for now.

@brenchen Soundset, Avionics, texture / modeling quality are the ones that are most obvious.
The Boris soundsets are really superb. A2A still uses the same squealing brake or rattling cabin sound as in FSX.
But it's also things like sticky needles which you may get unstuck by tapping the glass. A feature A2A once had, but since MSFS never implemented. The absolutely great gyro simulation is another point.
But the biggest one is the price: For 55 bucks you get the Aerostar, or the Bonanza plus the Baron, each one coming in three different engine and/or airframe variants.

Back in the day you could swap props and whole engines on A2A products. Their features got less, Blacksquare is implementing more with each release.
A2A still has the edge when it comes to engine and combustion simulation and the magnificent wear and tear of individual components. But for me, in day to day operations, Blacksquare gives me a better immersion after all.

Boris's work is something to die for, love the anger in the engines! That said, the sound is a lot quieter inside than outside. Is that by design or only a problem for me?
