EFB Send to ATC clears flight plan from the plane
-
I have experienced some strange behavior in MSFS2024. I tried to get a new plan to ATC and the only option it to use the EFB Send to ATC option as the already set flightplan in the airplane is not recognized by ATC (there is no option in the ATC menu to request IFR plan for the flightplan put in to the plane). However, once I select this option the flight plan from the plane is removed. I can file the plan with ATC and re enter the plan to the plane, but it is buggy. It seems the approach is already there although flightplan looks empty when re entering the airports the approach is automatically selected. Also the ND becomes laggy, and strangly some parts are updated normally but like the route itself lags.
One workaround is to earese the flightplan from the plane once more using the CDU, after that I can enter it again without any issues.
Also, I dont know if the send to Instrument and send to both instrument and ATC works better. -
The short version is that flight plan importing is very not supported in Starship. I was blindsided by how many of my users would essentially be flying Starship through a flight planner, since this is not a behavior I have seen with my other aircraft, nor something I have ever done myself. The native flight plan import system worked well in MSFS 2020, but became almost unusable in MSFS 2024. Instead, developers are moving to Working Title's flight planner. The native flight planner is the "Send to ATC" option, and the new flight planner is the "Send to Avionics" option.
Luckily for you, we are currently discussing how I will bring support for flight plan importing to both simulators in this topic where I solicited the advice of your fellow Starship pilots. Please feel free to add your voice to how you think it should work. My solution is working well in MSFS 2020 at the time of flight loading, and I now have a robust path forward for MSFS 2024. This is the premier feature I would like to have in Starship v1.2, hopefully in a few weeks.

Well, what I wanted to do here is really requesting IFR clearance from ATC after the flight has been already started (weather went really bad). So I would not mind if I cannot import the flight plan from the EFB. That is why I tried to use the "Send to ATC" intead of the "Send to Avionics". In this case even if the plane would not have any connection to the EFB it would not be a problem.
All in all it is not a big problem and I really do enjoy entering flight plan through the CDU. It is a really nice plane, thanks for your work. -
The very last message I just posted in that other topic explains that hopefully you will be able to do both with my current implementation. I'm still frantically writing code, but I think I will be able to overwrite any weirdness that comes from the native flight planner, leaving the airplane with the good route interpreted for Starship, and the ATC with the route to provide air traffic control.
